Because of the way the books are designed, elementary school teachers can save time by reading and using the books during language arts to introduce and/or supplement core subject learning in science and math.

Just like human families, animal families come in a variety of “shapes and sizes.” Some animals are raised solely by mothers, some with the help of members of the group other than biological parents, some by both parents, & some animal families even rely on older siblings to help raise the younger ones. From the editor: I consider myself lucky to have seen lots of dolphins in the wild. Dolphins truly are amazing animals—and smart! Laurie’s book gets into some absolutely fascinating tidbits about how dolphins learn by play and observation. Living in coastal South Carolina, I was already familiar with their hunting technique known as “stranding.” I had not known about some of their other developed and learned hunting techniques found in specific locations around the world. And it goes without saying that Laurie’s art is always fabulous! The soon-to-be-released Dolphins: Learned Behaviors is a must read!
