Read Across Iowa is a special event held in March that celebrates literacy and agriculture -- all while encouraging youth to read! The month-long celebration shares the joy of reading with youth of all ages. The 2025 theme is Fruits & Veggies: Heroes of Your Plate! đđ
âď¸đ To celebrate the event 1,000 FREE book kits will be assembled and available for request by educators across Iowa. Each kit will also come with lessons and activities to help implement the books into classroom programming. We're excited to have you and your students join us for all the Read Across Iowa celebrations!
Kits are geared towards K-5 teachers and are on a first-come, first-served basis.
Looking ahead, we are not expecting to see much variation in the weather from day to day. While Sunday is geared to be cool/seasonal, temperatures will trend upwards heading towards midweek. Otherwise, we will remain quiet, weather-wise. Have a great weekend!

The channel catfish has taste buds distributed over the entire surface of its body and are especially concentrated on the 4 pairs of barbels (whiskers) surrounding the mouth. These sharp senses allow the channel catfish to find food in dark or muddy water.

Human Trafficking is happening in communities across Iowa. It is a crime that can happen behind closed doors, in plain sight, at a workplace and in any community - including yours.
That's why it's important to understand what it is, identify the signs, and learn how to report suspicious behaviors and situations when you see them.
To learn more about what we as Iowans can do to prevent human trafficking in our state visit the link in the comments below.

105.5 FM signed on as KILJ. The first programming sent out to southeast Iowa was local newsâŚfollowed by music⌠and at 7:30 that night, it was a live broadcast of Mt. Pleasant Panther Football.
People couldnât believe their earsâŚâŚ news and sports as well as music on an FM station!!!
Frosty Mitchell and Robert Ray started KILJ⌠Paul and Joyce Dennison purchased the station in 1977.
KILJ-FM was one of the first in Iowa to use an AM station format on an FM frequency. Before that time it was âelevatorâ music only on FMâs.
KILJ played middle of the road music until the early 1980âs. Then KKSI-AM was acquired and given the call letters KILJ-AM.
That led to the birth of KJ Country⌠We were the first to play country music on the FM band in S.E. Iowa.
KILJ-AM took over the Memory Music format.
September 2004⌠KILJ shuffled the AM and FM formats once again⌠bringing a unique mixture of easy listening to the FM side⌠broader than the old âMemory Musicâ format⌠but still playing some of the same smooth style music⌠Now, 105.5FM is âThe Smooth Sound of Southeast Iowaâ⌠while KILJ AM 1130 became â Southeast Iowa âs ONLY AM Countryâ station, taking the country music format back.
Both stations compliment the music with National, State and Local news⌠high school and college sports, Tom Churchilllâs weather forecasts, and grain and livestock markets.
Now you know our history⌠Stay tuned while we make more!
