I’ve been toying with the idea of organizing my yarn for a while. It’s a daunting prospect. I’ve got a lot of yarn. Happily, my stash isn’t in disarray, but it’s still not easy to find a particular ball of yarn without digging through every skein of the same weight.

Right now, my yarn is containerized and sorted by weight. The only way for me to know exactly what I have is to paw through it.

I considered using Ravelry’s yarn cataloging function. I dismissed that idea right away. I knew that I wouldn’t have the patience to photograph every skein, then, type in all of the yarn information. Yikes!

The top three things I want from my yarn stash organization are:

Search-ability
Visibility
Ease of maintenance

In my imagination, my stash is my own tiny little yarn shop. Ideally, I’d find a pattern that calls for yarn that knits to 5 stitches to the inch and I’d be able to put my hands on several options without digging through all of my worsted weight yarn.

Being able to see everything easily is important to me too. I forget about things that are invisible.

Finally, I need to be able to pull things out and put them back in order easily.

If you’ve found a solution to keeping your stash organized, please let me know in the comments. I’m open to all suggestions.

This big, burly swatch is from that batch of Trendsetter Icon I found on clearance at Slip Stitch Avenue last week.

The balls whispered that they wanted to be a cardigan. I had an idea for the striping pattern I wanted to try out in the swatch.

I think it’s going to work just fine.

Happy Halloween!

I knit these socks for Halloween last year. I’m hooked now. I’m going to have to make halloween socks every year. Who knew that I was a topical sock person?

I followed Safiyyah Talley’s Knit 2 Socks in 1 method. It was so much fun.

The little monsters on the sides were a duplicate stitch motif that I decided to do to add my own little flair to the situation.
