Lake County to Provide Free Transit to Cold Weather Shelters for Residents Vulnerable to Freezing Temperatures
Lake County, FL - The Lake County government will open a cold-weather shelter to assist those vulnerable to freezing. The shelter will open on Dec. 2 and Dec. 3 in Eustis at LifePointe Church. LakeXpress, the County’s fixed-route bus service, will provide free transportation for residents riding to the shelter utilizing the following schedule. Residents may ride LakeXpress for free to the Citizens or Ardice Transfer Centers from any stop by telling the driver you’re traveling to the Cold Weather Shelter.

Residents who cannot access LakeXpress but need travel accommodations to the cold weather shelter may call Lake County Connection at (352) 742-2612 by 5 p.m. to arrange transportation.

Dec. 2 from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Dec. 3 from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m.

The shelter will close each following morning at 8 a.m. Lake County buses will be available at 7 a.m. to transport residents to regularly scheduled stops in the morning. Lake County residents can also text COLD to 888-777 to receive text updates about cold weather shelters and other related alerts. Nonprofit and faith-based organizations that wish to offer sheltering assistance in the future should contact Lake County Emergency Management at 352-343-9420.

Cauley Lott Park Surveillance footage

Crime Bulletin Cauley Lott Park Shooting Case: 24MD13150 Bulletin: 24-59 On 08/02/24 at approximately 6:00 PM, several people were utilizing Cauley Lott Park with cars parked on Pine Avenue. Two unknown males, with a youthful appearance, walked down the middle of Pine Avenue from N Highland Street. A dark late model sedan was seen backing out onto Pine Avenue from the park, when the two subjects walking down the street both opened fire on the sedan. Video and evidence from the scene show a third unknown shooter returning fire towards the other two individuals. A bystander was shot in the leg and was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Another unoccupied parked SUV was also struck multiple times by all three shooters. It is unknown if anyone in this car was injured as they have not contacted the Mount Dora Police Department. This incident could have been a real tragedy as there were bystanders of all ages in the area at the time. This type of violence in a city park built for the enjoyment of our residents and visitors should not be tolerated.
