Remember folks, just because there's no snow on the road, doesn't mean there's no ice on the road. Many roads still have ice and slush on them. If you don't have to go anywhere this morning, please stay home.

Colquitt County Citizens:

Quick update on where we are with current conditions. As of now, we are seeing some melting of ice on our roadways. You will see county crews and equipment out on the roads doing what we can to make them a little more safe and passable. If you must get out to drive, please remain extremely cautious.

As it cools down this evening, the melting snow will turn to ice and driving conditions will worsen. Please continue to limit vehicle traffic to an absolute minimum. We advise being home for the day by 6:00pm this afternoon.

As has already been posted, Colquitt County Schools will be closed tomorrow.

County Administrative offices will also remain closed tomorrow (Thursday), at least until 12:00pm noon. If conditions improve, our offices could possibly open to the public tomorrow afternoon. We ask that you please remain flexible.

Additionally, county crews will be out again tomorrow to try and improve road conditions. Please continue to limit travel when and where possible.

Residential Solid Waste will also not pick up tomorrow. Continue to leave your cans by the road. As soon as conditions improve, we will be picking them up ASAP. Likewise, the landfill will also be closed tomorrow.

Fortunately, we have had very few accidents today, despite record breaking snowfall for our area.

Thank you for your patience and please enjoy the snow while it is still fresh. We will likely never see this again in our lifetimes! ❄️

The Moultrie Observer will not be delivered on Wednesday due to the weather. We thought we had made plans that would allow us to get the newspapers to the post office before the snow and ice began, but it did not work out that way.
We regret the inconvenience to our subscribers.
Newspapers will be taken to the post office and to local sales locations as soon as it is safe for us to do so.

Colquitt County Citizens:

As you know, there is the possibility for some snow and ice throughout the county over the next several days. Last week, County Departments began procuring sand and salt for potentially icy roads and bridges as well as sidewalks for county buildings and entrances. Although we do have these supplies available and on standby, they are in limited quantities.

What we ask of the public is to inform us if you observe any icy roads or bridges so that we might be able to take some action on making them more passable and safe.

Please call the E-911 non-emergency number at 229-616-7470 if you observe these conditions and report it.

Finally, please continue to monitor local weather forecasts for future updates. If we do experience icy conditions on roads, we encourage you to avoid them unless travel is absolutely necessary.

Thank you and stay warm!
