Mikela’s Story...
30 some winter’s ago, my life’s story began out on the Prairie Lands of Kansas, where the Pawnee and Osage once roamed. For the first 6 months of my life, I journeyed through many families: birth, foster, and adopted. Then I settled into the Irish-Welsh-Scottish family who would raise me between the Prairie Lands near the traditional Wichita’s Summer Camp and the Ouachita Forests near the relocated Choctaw and Cherokee. Such was life, running through the prairie and forest, learning the history of those who came before, and dreaming of a life lived the old way. 24 winters into my journey, a friend of three years became something more, and I would marry my dear “Rabbie”, my Badger Claw. So it was that I became part of the Kles clan, a sassenach (outsider) though I was. Rabbie was semi-nomadic at that time, and we would spend time around Sicawgaw (Chicago), the Prairie Lands, and much of our time in the Anasazi Desert.
Now nearing 36 winters into my journey, and we are dwelling in the Blackened Forests of Kentucky and Tenessee. Here we are for three full cycles of the seasons as we learn and save for the next part of the journey. Our goal? By the 38th winter of my journey, to be out settled in the Blackened Forest of Sothern Appalachia (Kentucky/Tenessee/North Carolina) preparing to wildstead on our own land (which might be a few years on down the road). Rabbie will work as a fishing guide, and I will continue my herbalist and wilderness training while working for a time. After training, I will open my herblist/natural health store/classroom to share more with others and pass out my knowledge of the wildlands.
