On Friday, December 27, 2024 at 6:15 p.m., the Grant County Sheriff's Office received a report of a vehicle that had gone through the ice on the north end of Pomme De Terre Lake. The occupant(s) of the vehicle were able to get out of the vehicle and safely make it to shore.
With the current unseasonably warm temperatures, the Grant County Sheriff's Office would like to remind everyone that ice is not always safe. Please use caution if venturing out.

For all of you that enjoy ice fishing...

With the continued warmer temps along with anticipated rainfall, keep an eye on those ice depths. This weather will cause some damage to the ice!

Good news, the temps will fall back to around average and below average as we get into the 1st and 2nd week of January.

We are normally closed on Friday, but due to limited hours this week, we will be open from 9am to noon tomorrow.

This is mostly for rural areas in western Minnesota...

After we see the snowfall clear out of here this evening, winds will increase behind the low pressure system out of the north northwest. Gusts of 20 to 30mph is likely for most of the area while western Minnesota could see gusts over 35mph. With fresh, lightweight snow on the ground, blowing and drifting snow will occur for a few hours after 9pm. Winds should begin to calm overnight/early Friday morning.

Temps will also plummet tonight to the single digits so salt on the roads will be less effective.

If you are driving tonight, use caution. Roads could become pretty bad with low visibilities.
