Mon Hills Records is an independent record label associated with West Virginia University. It is a student run organization that provides its members with the real-world skills and experience needed to lead and succeed in the global music business. We represent real talent from the Appalachian region, sporting a catalog of genres including Americana, Outlaw Country, Southern Rock, Jazz, Pop, Folk, and Rockabilly.
The Mon Hills Records mission is:
To provide students with practical, hands-on music industry experience and knowledge through participating in real-world commercial production, promotion, and management of the label’s artists for the music market.
To promote, produce, and preserve the highest quality of music across multiple genres to enrich the cultural strength and well-being of our Appalachian community.
To operate as an artist-centered and artist-friendly organization above all. We believe that our artists and their music is an expression of who we are as a record label and what we stand for as a company.
Mon Hills Records recently began exploring the world of live event promotion, creating a monthly open-mic performance series and reestablishing the weekly Morgantown Sound show. In 2019, we added the practice of talent agency for our artists to find local live performance opportunities. These new ventures provide our members important skills for concert promotion and ex*****on, and have added invaluable skill sets for success in the live music industry.
At Mon Hills Records, we welcome all individuals in related businesses, marketing, public relations, graphic design, music software programming, music technology, and other college majors who want to gain professional experience, skills, and knowledge to practice in the music industry.
