The Monongalia County Commission declared in no uncertain terms on Wednesday that it will not negotiate with the United Mine Workers of America.

The statement is a confirmation of the position first articulated by the body back in May and the commission’s first comment on the issue since a Sept. 26 vote in support of UMWA representation by employees of the Monongalia County Assessor’s Office.

In a Wednesday evening press release, the Morgantown Fire Department said Tuesday’s fire in Whitemoore Park remains under investigation.

Just going by the percentages, you’d have to go back 20 years, to 2004, to find a higher turnout in Monongalia County than the recently completed 2024 election.

But percentages can be deceiving. After the completion of canvassing on Tuesday, the county ended up with a turnout of 64.24%.
