Morgan City Man Arrested on R**e of Juvenile

An investigation into alleged sexual misconduct involving a juvenile was filed in February 2024. Authorities say evidence was obtained to corroborate the complaint. The suspect, Ronjuer Granger, fled Louisiana but was later located in Rhode Island. He was extradited back to Morgan City on February 5, 2025.

Sheriff Gary Driskell reports that three inmates at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center were transported to a local medical facility for medical evaluation after experiencing a medical episode.
At approximately 9:00 pm on Wednesday night, February 5, Corrections deputies reported three offenders who were experiencing shortness of breath and other symptoms. Acadian Ambulance was called to the L.E.C. and subsequently, all three offenders were transported to a local medical facility for treatment.
They were transported back to the SMPLEC after evaluation on Wednesday night.

UPDATE 2/5/24—
Avery Hines, Jr., 18, of Jordan St., New Iberia, LA, turned himself in to the Franklin Police Department on February 4, 2025, at 1:37 PM, on a warrant for attempted second degree murder, illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities, resisting an officer – 4 counts, aggravated criminal damage to property, disturbing the peace by interruption of lawful assembly, and firearm-free zones. Hines was booked, processed, and held with no bond set at the time of press release.

UPDATE:

The Franklin Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in locating the following two subjects in reference to a shooting on January 29, 2025.

Avery Hines, Jr. is wanted for attempted second degree murder, illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities, resisting an officer – 4 counts, aggravated criminal damage to property, disturbing the peace by interruption of lawful assembly, and firearm-free zones.

James Austin is wanted for disturbing the peace by interruption of lawful assembly, aggravated assault with a firearm, and firearm-free zone.

Bayou Vista Man Arrested on Attempted Kidnapping and Attempted Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile

Lanny Theriot, 85, Bayou Vista, LA, was arrested on February 2, 2025, at 6:05 pm on a warrant for simple kidnapping (attempted) and indecent behavior with juvenile(s) (attempted).

On January 26, 2025, deputies responded to a complaint of a possible simple kidnapping. The complainant advised that his child was at an event in a public park with friends when the incident occurred. The juvenile said they were called over to a vehicle by a man waving money at them. The juvenile gave a description of the vehicle and the man.

Detectives followed up on the complaint, obtaining video footage and opening an investigation. Through the investigation, Theriot was identified as the suspect.

On February 2, 2025, Detectives received a second complaint and made contact with Theriot. During questioning, Theriot made statements that he intended to get the juvenile in the car for lewd behavior with the juvenile. Detectives obtained a warrant for Theriot’s arrest and transported him to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail has not been set at this time.

Six people were hurt in two separate vehicle crashes in Franklin last night, according to FFD. At 10:07pm, they responded to a vehicle that hit a power pole on Hwy 182 with 4 patients sent to Bayou Bend in Franklin. At 11:56pm, a second crash on Fifth and W. Ibert resulted in two injuries, including a pregnant female. One patient was sent to Bayou Bend while the other was transported to Lafayette General.
