From the Forestry Folks:
Residents will see increased smoke in the Waites Run fire areas starting today. Todays smoke is from burning pockets of unburnt fuel and securing the fire line. A larger operation is planned for tomorrow and is expected to produce more smoke.

Firefighters will use strategic firing operations to bring uncontrolled fire to a more manageable location within fire control lines. Strategic firing operations are also used to bring fire to a specific control feature (road, trail, handline, dozer line) where firefighters can safely and effectively manage and monitor the fire. Strategic firing operations can be conducted on the ground by hand, by helicopter or drone when conditions are too dangerous to place firefighters in the area.

They print the Examiner. From my perspective, if you want to know why we're struggling, this covers a lot of it. If you see an old Examiner -- 20 years or more -- look how many ads there are, compared to now. Just the classifieds used to be a page or more, and is now barely a third of a page. Other increases -- postage, gas, electricity -- increase our costs, which if passed along, result in fewer people advertising.

Print newspapers used to be all around us, in small towns, big cities, and on the national level. Why have they become less viable?

WVDNR reminds hunters to buy stamps for buck fi****ms season by Sunday deadline

West Virginia’s two-week buck fi****ms season will open Nov. 21 and hunters who want a chance to harvest an extra buck must purchase their RG or RRG stamp before the season starts.

Resident hunters must purchase their Class RG and non-resident hunters must purchase their Class RRG stamp by 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 20. Hunters will not be able to purchase an RG or RRG stamp once the season starts. Stamps are limited to one per licensed hunter and may be purchased at WVhunt.com or at an authorized license retailer.

Resident landowners may harvest an extra buck without purchasing an RG stamp if they are hunting on their own property. Nonresident hunters who own land in West Virginia are not exempt from purchasing a license or the extra buck stamp, even if hunting on their own property.

Hunters are reminded that they are required to use their permanent DNR identification number to check in their game online at WVhunt.com, at a license agent or by calling 1-844-WVCHECK. All deer harvested on Nov. 21-22 in Barbour, Jackson, Mason and Upshur counties must be brought to a designated biological game examination station. For more information, check page 14 of the Hunting and Trapping Regulations Summary.

The buck fi****ms season will run through Dec. 4. For more information about West Virginia's hunting seasons, visit WVdnr.gov.
