An update. Tuesday, the receiver seemed to have went deaf. With a visit yesterday, I started with the process of elimination. Could it be the receiver, the bandpass filter ICE 431, the coax stub or did something happen to the feedline or antenna? Within minutes, I found that the removal of the 10 m preselector made the receiver come to life. After some tests on the mountain from the ht, I was impressed. Leaving the mountain, I have the mobile in scan and heard a guy i Fresno, CA that starte talking to a guy in Tokyo and they were both decent signals. I really wanted to work Tokyo but heard nothing after that with the exception of a few weak signals on 29.5 and some repeater pairs. Oh well, back to the story. So we stopped to get something to eat and then went on a small road trip to the Hughesville, PA area and found that reception was much better down there than its ever been as the coverage map does show it to be a weaker area. So not saying everything is perfect but things are looking pretty decent at the moment. Its seems with each visit things get better, the amateur spirt right? It appears the biggest issue was the desense that the UHF repeater was causing which I still don't know how 444 MHz was desensing 29 MHz. Anyway, try it, post about it, send a message or signal report on here or repeaterbook on the map or [email protected] 73 for now.
