Mass Comm majors have the opportunity to earn college credit while gaining hands-on experience in the real world through internships.

This semester, MC major Cypris Wilkinson has been interning with the Media Relations team for UM Athletics.

β€œI’ve gained so much experience from my internship,” Cypris says. From posting live updates to social media to flexing her Photoshop and video editing skills, Cypris has been able to dive into the world of sports information, and much of her work has been posted on the Falcons’ social media platforms.

β€œI’m so very thankful to the University of Montevallo for having these opportunities available,” she says, β€œand they have been so important to me in deciding my career goals.”

Find out how you can get involved with an internship at the link in the comments below!

Mass Comm majors have the opportunity to earn college credit while gaining hands-on experience in the real world through internships.

Earlier this year, Liam Nagle interned with Content Fresh, a social media marketing and management agency that creates content for a variety of businesses across southern Alabama, ranging from local retailers to municipal services.

β€œI have learned so much about working with clients to craft videos that suit their needs and fit their brand voice,” Liam says. β€œSpecifically, I captured video of events, people, locations, and products and edited them together into Reels and B-roll for a variety of social media platforms. The internship also emphasized self-motivation and self-management, and through this opportunity I gained invaluable experience in the videography and social media industries.

MC major Elise Kidd is gaining hands-on experience at her internship with FRED Communication by Design, a marketing and communication agency located at Pepper Place in Birmingham.

β€œI work with an array of clients,” Elise says, β€œincluding real estate, local restaurants and businesses who are Pepper Place tenants and schools.

Elise’s internship heavily involves social media administration.

β€œI maintain messaging on those platforms, interactions with audiences, and creating content such as reels and posts,” she says. β€œI also contribute to the monthly analytics report to understand how my content is performing with Pepper Place and to help with the curation and creation of the monthly Pepper Place newsletter.”

The University of Montevallo Mass Communication Program recently hosted its annual Exploring Mass Communication Day, where central Alabama high school students visited Strong Hall to see all that the program has to offer. This year’s event had the largest turnout so far, with around 115 students from nine different schools participating in interactive career exploration workshops in TV, digital filmmaking, social media, multimedia journalism and more. πŸ’›πŸ’œ

β€œEMC Day guests got a taste of some key features of our department’s success, including engaging faculty and hands-on experience with industry-leading technology,” said Dr. Ray Ozley, chair of the Department of Communication. β€œOverall, it’s a wonderful opportunity for future Falcons to experience a day in the life of a UM communication student.”
