In today's Monroe Evening News is a special Visions section that takes a close look at the City of Monroe's new Heritage Corridor proposal, which drastically would alter the landscape of neighborhoods surrounding the River Raisin National Battlefield Park; Resilient Monroe, a cooperative effort by Monroe and Frenchtown townships and the City of Monroe, to grow in complementary directions, and the impact of tourism and how Monroe County can evolve into a major destination.
Along with this special section are several feature stories about Dundee's growth since Cabela's arrival and the update of its master plan to spur more development. Also featured is a story on Luna Pier's plans to focus on tourism as a way to face its future without Consumers Energy’s J.R. Whiting Power Plant, a major taxpayer that is expected to shut down.

The City of Monroe positions itself to capitalize on it's unique history.

The City of Monroe is develop­ing an extensive multi-year plan that will leverage the area’s his­torical features — including the River Raisin National Battlefield Park — to create a history corri­dor that could draw hundreds of thousands of tourists and dollars to the area annually.
