It was 112 years ago today on Monday June 10, 1912 that the bodies of Josiah and Sara Moore, their four children (Herman, Katherine, Boyd and Paul), and two overnight guests, Lena and Ina Stillinger were discovered in the Moore home in Villisca, Iowa. All were brutally murdered with an axe. Twenty years ago tonight, we premiered our first documentary VILLISCA: LIVING WITH A MYSTERY at the State Historical Building in Des Moines with historian/FIEND INCARNATE author Edgar Epperly joining us for Q&A. Ed and Joyce have become longtime friends. It took us ten years to see that project through and we are forever grateful to the MANY who helped and supported us along the way--Mary Lindberg our executive producer among them. We will always be haunted by the tragedy that took place in Villisca. We respectfully remember the eight victims, their families, their friends, and their community.

AN AMAZING OPENING NIGHT OF FILM at the Pulling Focus African American Film Festival of The Quad Cities last night! We made some new friends during the evening, and hooked up with our documentary filmmaking friends Marie Wilkes and Kevin Kelley of New Mile Media Arts ("Stout Hearted: George Stout and the Guardians of Art", "Standing Strong: Elizabeth Catlett"). We highly recommend getting out this weekend to see the incredible films screening at the Lincoln Center, Putnam Museum, the Figge Art Museum, The Last Picture House, and meet the filmmakers and enjoy other special festival events organized by festival directors Gaye Shannon Burnett and filmmaker Jonathan Burnett.
