Meet Squid Ink Eats & Drinks's coctail curator, Isabel Resh. Isabel is the winner of this year's annual Mobile Latin Fest Cocktail Contest.

Story behind this year's winning cocktail and its creator:
My name is Isabel Resch and I am Mexican on my mother's side. When I was younger my mom would send us to spend the summers with my grandparents in Acapulco, Mx. My grandma and I would go the market in the morning and then have coffee together. Mine was café con leche, but she always added some Abuelita chocolate to mine.

I have younger cousins who did not get to know my grandparents. When we get together, we always enjoy Carajillo's as our after dinner drink. Carajillo is a Latin drink that is Brazilian rum and cortee based. I have combined my past memories with my grandmother and my current life into the Café Royal to combine two generations into one cocktail.

2nd Annual Mobile Latin Fest Cocktail Challenge!
In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Hispanic American Business Association of the Gulf Coast presents the 2nd Annual Mobile Latin Fest taking place during the October 14th LODA Artwalk. All downtown restaurant and bar owners are invited to accept the challenge by creating your best Latin-inspired cocktail. To enter, create your cocktail, take a picture and send us the picture with a brief description. We'll promote your special in the days before and during the Festival on our social media pages and website.

Submit your entry by October 11th. Judging will take place beginning Tuesday evening the11th and concluding on Thursday the 13th. We’ll have a couple of small teams of qualified judges come in and taste your creation. Cocktails will be judged in three areas:

1. How well your Cocktail Supports the Mobile Latin Fest theme, meaning describe your cocktail’s Latin influence or Heritage
2. Creativity, we don’t need complete instructions, just highlight the basic concept
3. TASTE! Of course!

Each judge will rate their top three cocktails with the winner announced during Latin Fest. Besides ‘bragging rights”, the prize package includes $100 cash and a one-of-a-kind Latin Cocktail-inspired painting. Also, we’ll promote the full list of all participating venues in Cathedral Square during Latin Fest.

To enter, simply send an email to [email protected] and with the name of your Latin-inspired cocktail, description and photo by Tuesday, October 11th. Judging will take place beginning Tuesday evening and end on Thursday. Alabama Coasting is pleased to be helping with this Cocktail Challenge. Since inception, ALABAMA COASTING has been a recognized community resource for businesses, organizations and local governments – helping them reach visitors and active locals. As publishers of Alabama Coasting Magazine since 2010, we have proudly served as ambassadors for our home town and our local communities by telling the stories of the people, places and businesses that make this area so special.

And now, in concert with the Coastal Alabama Partnership, we are proud to introduce DISCOVER COASTAL ALABAMA Magazine. This new publication replaces Alabama Coasting Magazine as the regions premier quarterly visitor and active local resource. However, it does retain the same “coasting” vibe – celebrating our region’s life style, culture, attitude, and way of embracing our world.
