Rufus is a Chicago-based funk band best known for launching Chaka Khan's career. They achieved success with hits like "Tell Me Something Good," "Sweet Thing," "Do You Love What You Feel," and "Ain't Nobody." The band was highly influential in the 1970s, earning four consecutive number-one R&B albums and multiple top 40 hits.πŸ‘‘πŸ–€πŸ”₯πŸ’―πŸ’₯

Initially formed from the American Breed, the group underwent several name changes and member shifts before becoming Ask Rufus. Chaka Khan joined the band in the early 1970s, recommended by her friend and former band member Paulette McWilliams. Under the management of Bob Monaco, they signed with ABC Dunhill and released their self-titled album in 1973. Despite modest success, it was their 1974 album, "Rags to Rufus," that brought them significant acclaim, featuring the Grammy-winning single "Tell Me Something Good."

As Chaka Khan's popularity grew, the band's name evolved to Rufus featuring Chaka Khan. They continued to release successful albums like "Rufusized" and "Ask Rufus," but internal tensions, particularly involving Khan and drummer Andre Fischer, led to several lineup changes. Khan eventually pursued a solo career, releasing her platinum-selling debut album in 1978 while still performing with Rufus.
