Two giant new container cranes arrived Wednesday at the Port of Mobile. The new brace of cranes will join four others at the terminal, which sits well south of downtown Mobile on the west side of the Mobile River.

Cory Kauffman had his second encounter with a whale shark in the Gulf of Mexico little more than two weeks after the first, this time about 5 miles off the coast of Destin, Fla. The whale shark was accompanied by a pod of dolphins.
Super Soaker inventor Lonnie Johnson shares advice with Alabama college gradscollege
Lonnie Johnson, a Mobile native and engineer who invented the Super Soaker water gun, spoke at Spring Hill College and the University of South Alabama’s commencement ceremonies this past weekend.
Johnson is an accomplished inventor with over 140 patents, and his Super Soaker creation is considered one of the best toys of the 20th century.
The Alabama School of Math and Science (Official) in Mobile celebrates 30 years by honoring Ann Bedsole, the state lawmaker who is credited for creating the school. Bedsole, 93, was the state's first woman ever elected to the Alabama State Senate.

Great white shark caught in Alabama
A great white shark, believed to be the first ever caught in Alabama waters, was reeled in by a group earlier this month on a land-based shark fishing trip in Orange Beach, Alabama.
Dylan Wier, his business partner Blaine Kenny and a group of family friends from Wisconsin caught the shark in the early morning hours of March 7. It took the group 32 minutes to reel the fish in, which was confirmed to be a great white by a Mississippi-based professor and go-to shark expert for the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
