The Pet Protection Act, also known as “The Gucci Law,” was passed on April 27, 2000. This would make intentional cruelty to animals a Class C felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Recently, on Dec. 28, investigators said Mary Rivers and her son Tavoris Gallery allegedly threw two miniature pinschers off the Dog River Bridge. They now face two counts of first-degree cruelty to a dog, which is a Class C felony.
The year is 2000, 25 years ago. That’s when a chow-mix dog named Gucci inspired a new law that would charge anyone who intentionally harmed an animal with a felony.
