Starlight Thursdays Episode 252 Featuring a live recording of Pandaura performing at our 2025 New Years celebration “Star Garden”

NYE this year for me was all about the melding of the new with the classic. The party itself was a collaboration between the new sound crew on the block Backwoods Beats and longtime Missoula sound crew Starlight (inside)/Ghetto Gypsy (outside). My mix is a lot of contemporary disco and some more disco-y house. There's been a small resurgence of the disco sound but with modern production techniques in the last few years, and it was a pleasure seeing people enjoy the real instruments and groovy vocals that populate this music. Big thanks to everyone who made that night so special: dancers, DJs, fire spinners, visual artists, food/drink vendors, etc. etc. I love this community and wouldn't be here today without it. Please look out for one another, we'll make it through together.

Starlight Thursdays Episode 251, Welcome FOUTS to the series! We did a little interview to get better acquainted.

How long have you been DJing?
I began mixing in fall of 2023 and performed for others for the first time during New Years at the end of that year.

Why did you get into it?
My partner, kaPOWski, is a DJ. I have always been a music nerd, and watching over their shoulder I couldn’t help but be intrigued. I have such a specific memory of a night that some friends and I spent up at Hyalite, where we dragged all of the sound equipment up to one of the forest service cabins. That is the first time I remember actually trying to mix. It was fast-paced and exciting and such an alluring combination of feeling the music and paying attention to the more technical aspects of the rhythms. I was hooked. Starting to DJ also felt like the natural next step as I consumed more live-mixed music at events and started being able to recognize artists by their sound. I couldn’t not try it for myself. I feel so much more connected to tracks that I love when I get to mix them myself.

What events have you played?
I have mostly played at Burning Man and regional burns, with some local community events thrown in. It was an honor to be asked to play the first Sound Haven event in Helena this past November—the q***r dance party initiative put together by Hnnh Beets, among others.

Where do you live ?
Bozeman, MT

Where are you from originally?
I was born in Maine and lived there until I was 14. I then lived in Miami, FL until I graduated high school.

What inspires you to DJ?
I spend a lot of time listening to sets by my favorite producers and DJs. Oftentimes this is background music for me, but I love that moment of becoming instantly aware when a track comes on that I connect with. The Shazam comes out and I add it to my giant playlist of tracks that I might download and play in the future. Going through this curated list, I love being able to vividly remember the first time I heard the song. When music moves me like that, I want to get my hands on it, connecting the waveform on the deck to the narrative structure of the track, feeling out where I can play with effects and make transitions. It is an intensely satisfying process for me from start to finish.

What inspires you about electronic music culture?
I am deeply inspired by the origins of this music. From Chicago’s underground warehouse scene where pioneering black artists inspired by disco started mixing old standards and creating electronic tracks, house music has always been a refuge for those not accepted by mainstream society to come together and dance. Q***r and black joy is inherently embedded in this culture. Initiatives like FEMME HOUSE and Beatport’s 2020 Pride series continue to do the work to elevate voices that are unfortunately not yet centralized in the zeitgeist. Anytime I am on stage, I feel honored to be a tiny part of this work—to show up exactly the way that I am and to be able to move those listening along with me.

What genres are in your mix?
Mostly progressive house with a bit of techno and tech house thrown in.

Can you tell us a few words about your mix?
I really wanted to create a good work mix for my friends—something to bounce to at a desk during those long hours. I was able to work in some tracks that I love but struggle to play for a dance party with those long bridges. I really enjoy the combination of the melodic aspects of this set alongside driving beats and unexpected noise elements.

Who are some of the artists in your mix?
Paraleven, Kasablanca, KREAM, Hauswerks, Nihil Young, and Carlita, among others.

Anything else you want us to know?
I am continually uplifted by the acceptance and love I have found among the community of Montana DJs. I love how many of us are q***r and femme and continuing to push the envelope in the way we show up. It has been so rewarding to learn and be encouraged by my peers on this journey!

Starlight Thursdays Episode 249 Welcome S**a to the series.
We did a little interview to get a glimpse behind the scenes and better acquainted.

When did you get into DJing?
I started off practicing and messing around with it when i was 18-20. The last two years I’ve focused on professional shows and playing residencies.

Why did you get into it?
I fell in love with it at a young age when my cousin was djing in new york city. The festival scene was always something amazing to me. Seeing so many people come together and share music.

What events have you played?
I’ve Preformed in Missoula Pride 2025, Maggot Fest the last two years, headlined at Tipsup, Big Sky, I’ve had the pleasure to open for Nostalgix, Luci, SoDown, Pushloop, Maddy O’Neal and provide direct support for Mr.Bill. It’s been a wild journey.

Where are you from? New Jersey/ NYC but currently in the University district, Missoula

What inspires you to DJ?
The way I connect with music is like no other, it takes me away from day to day anxieties, and brings me to a reality i never want to leave. Especially when I am able to make a connection with a room full of people and have a moment where we are one, seeing smiles, laughter and dancing is something i never want to be without.

What inspires you about electronic music culture?
I think for me it’s how exciting and diverse the electronic music culture can be, an area that continues to grow and theres no stopping it.

Can you tell us few words about this mix?
It’s a blend of some saucy bass and tech beats recorded on NYE. I went on the decks at 1am, the energy of the room was good and we all just danced together to house music. I played tracks from GENESI, Simon Kidzoo, Matt Sassari, Biscits and Joshwa to name a few. Super fun. Really appreciated ringing in the new year with our community in such a high energy way.

The Exchange
We are thrilled to announce our new series and debut of our artist exchange program! We’re excited to kick this off with dr. tom (Montreal, QC) and NDLES (Boise, ID) both resident DJs of and key players associated with “Under the Trees” (.boise ), the biggest nonprofit in Idaho dedicated to building community around underground electronic dance music. These two are making waves in the Idaho House and Techno movement with their original music, legendary gatherings, and high energy creativity.
The Exchange program invites artists from outside the state to come and share their musical influences and unique styles. True to the name, they will host our artists in their local scenes to expand the underground Montana sound beyond our state lines.
We have DJ support from our very own PineDrops and BK Love coming in from Missoula. Both of these artists bring sonic elements from their time spent living in Brooklyn, NYC where they performed in industrial warehouses that hosted epic, full weekend parties.
We invite you to welcome our visitors from afar with open arms—we’re confident you’ll dance from start till close!tom.music

Starlight Thursdays episode 248 featuring a live recording of GETDOWN from Star Garden NYE 2025.

This was one to remember, GETDOWN went on the decks at midnight performing the first set of 2025. He brought House and Techno into the forefront of our lives on the dance floor and our bodies obliged. This mix deliverers forward driving bass lines, deep rhythms and a steady kick as GETDOWN blends the minimal ethereal melodies on the surface of Techno with the funky force that is House. He still holds a special place in my heart as one of my favorite DJs in the scene and close friends. Time and time again I’m reminded just how hard he delivers with his selection of underground music and prowess behind the decks.

Starlight Thursdays Episode 247 featuring BK Love
Recorded live at Star Garden New Year’s Eve 2025.

I went on at 4am. There’s something about the late night early morning sets that I find special. The mood is already well set and pressure of peak time has past. More often than not people just wanna keep going. We had a good dance floor bumping when I got on. Within the first few tracks a konga line formed and I was like “oh hell yeah, it’s on!” I kept the system bumping till nearly 6. Playing Afro House, some deeper stuff and a bit of Techno. Having 4 cdjs setup was fantastic and allowed me to play more tracks simultaneously, loop and layer sounds and overall get really lost in the music. This is one I’ll remember forever. I felt so locked in and connected with the dance floor.
Really appreciate all the people that stayed up late and got down, also incredibly grateful for the Starlight Reunion team and all the hard work they put in to make the celebration shine bright.

Starlight Thursdays Episode 246 Welcome SiG to the series. What a pleasure it was to bring SiG out for NYE. This live recording of his set Is a refreshing sound not often heard in our region. Filled with melodic techno, beautiful base lines and uplifting vibes. Sig currently resides in his home town of Great Falls MT, but is very well traveled and drew a lot of his DJing influence from his time spent living in Brooklyn. He’s obsessed with sound system culture, and dives deep into signal path. Especially important when you own a sound system like the one he brought out for this NYE gathering. It was an absolute gift for our DJs and dancers to play on a high fidelity system. I personally think it’s up there with the top speakers in our state. Starlight Thursdays Episode 235.
MumbleBee is back with the bass. They have been sharing their sound as a dj/producer for the past 4 years. 3 of which have been closely with Starlight Reunion. They’ve become an integral part of our collective both as a DJ and powerhouse of behind the scenes skills they preform to help make these magical dance party moments happen. I’m forever grateful for my friendship with them, my time side by side in the dj booth and in our organization’s meetings. This year alone they have performed the SLR Takeover in Big Sky MT, SLR Takeover in Tulum, Mexico, Burning Man ( Camp Funky Town and Unitopia), Montopia (Montana’s unofficial BM Regional and on the air live at KFGM with. I’m so happy to share another of their amazing mixes, I know you’ll enjoy.

I was feeling inspired after hangout out with my friends, so I hopped behind my decks and threw some sounds together to see what would happen. I put together some Bass Music, Indie Pop, and Assorted Electronica. There’s a track from Grace Ives, Holy heck am I obsessed with her right now!
