Deb grew up in Minneapolis, went off to the wilds of Iowa for college, then even farther afield to Germany to study, live and fall in love. She's the entire German dept. at Normandale Community College, but pinch hits in the English dept. when needed. She's a professor, a mother, a grandmother, tree hugger and a lover of words in both languages. For this reading, Deb will be reading her translation of German poetry.

Meet Errol Rubenstein.
Errol grew up in Chicago and spent some time on the East Coast before returning to the Midwest. He has been writing poems for many years and his work has appeared in Common Ground Review, Soundings East, The Avalon Literary Review, 34th Parallel Magazine, and elsewhere. His first book of poems, "Prickly Pair" (with photographs by David M. Wong), was self-published in 2022 and is available directly from the author. His second book of poems "A Shot in the Dark," published by Potter's Wheel Publishing House in 2024, deals with themes of love, family, relationships and the natural world, and is available on Amazon in print and Kindle editions.

River has the heart of a poet and the eyes of an artist. Her work reflects the principles she lives by where imperfection is beauty, nature is appreciated, and knowledge is gold. In addition, River’s work is often influenced by her battle with multiple sclerosis, and Ojibwe heritage. River is a multimedia artist, poet, and writer currently residing in River Falls, Wisconsin with her cat, Niko. Her most recent publication, Still Standing: Snapshots of an MS Warrior is a memoir told through essay and poetry. River is the host of the seasonal program, Up Close: Meet the Poet Behind the Verse. Hello friends! Is your teenager looking for something to do? Summer a little too unstructured? We have a great opportunity from our community partners at UpSkill MN.
This 4-week workshop, in partnership with MTN.org and MN State Colleges IT and Engineering Centers of Excellence, is designed to provide hands-on, project-based learning in computation, engineering, design thinking, AI, media production, and more. The skills learned in these workshops prepare students to take future STEM credits and courses at Minnesota State Colleges and Universities.
Workshop Details:
Dates: July 22nd to August 15th
Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 10 am to 2 pm (drop-ins welcome!)
Location: Jennings Community School
Who Can Join: All currently enrolled Jennings students aged 13 and up, and other high school and college-aged students from the general public.
What You’ll Gain:
Earn certifications and badges in modules such as stop motion, audio mixing, video switching, lighting, and visual communications.
Flexibility to attend any or all sessions – no need to commit to the entire 4 weeks! Drop-ins welcome.
Once you’ve completed and tested out of every module, you’ll be eligible to become a paid UpSkill Ambassador for future sessions and events to help others learn the skills.

Hands-on learning with guidance from dedicated facilitators and industry mentors.
