Should you script your video testimonials?
It's a question that stirs up quite the debate—and for good reason.
The last thing you want is for your testimonials to sound like a rehearsed monologue.
The common advice is to just wing it, to "have a conversation."
But what if that's not the golden ticket?

When you rely solely on spontaneous chatter, your testimonials can meander aimlessly.
hey might miss the mark, failing to resonate with what truly matters to your audience.
Or worse, they could drag on without delivering the punch.

Now, imagine scripting your video with precision, capturing the essence of what you want to convey.
Your customers will have a clear understanding of your expectations.
They'll know the key points you want highlighted, yet they'll have the freedom to express them in their own authentic voice.

The beauty of this approach is that it empowers your testimonials to be more assured and prepared.
They'll grasp not just the topics at hand but also the tone and style you envision.

This alignment ensures everyone is on the same wavelength, crafting testimonials that leave a lasting impression on your audience.

Consider the end viewer and the purpose of your testimonial.
If you're aiming to capture attention at the top of the funnel, infuse it with energy and excitement.
Let it be bold and captivating.

Contrast that with the bottom of the funnel, where you're nurturing trust for a significant deal. Here, a calm, consistent tone speaks volumes about reliability and quality.

By planning the who, what, where, when, and why of your video testimonial, you can hit the bullseye with precision.

And if you're seeking guidance on crafting high-quality, goal-driven video testimonials, visit www.providfilms.com.

Video testimonial mistakes - DONT DO THESE! Here's the most common mistakes for bad testimonial videos.
1) bad technicals like lighting and audio are easy (but big deals) for looking and sounding great!

Just wanted to chat about Kris Lindahl's new book "Arms Out." It's packed with his life story that you won't find anywhere else.
And if you know me, I love stories because they have the power to teach lessons in a way that actually reaches deep into our brains to create a memory way more than just teaching you straight facts, statistics, and "lessons".
Lessons about things like how to dominate local SEO - without even saying the word SEO.
Teaching you about emotional intelligence without even saying the phrase emotional intelligence.
Kris's angle on teaching is sideways to the more formal facts and figures - he does it using stories throughout his life - and it's refreshing.
I tried to make a quick review video, but life kept getting in the way, so I couldn't finish it.
Anyway, here's what I managed to put together.
If you're curious and want to snag your own copy, it's on sale on Amazon right now.
Maybe I'll post a video tomorrow.

What equipment is needed for a testimonial video?
1) A good camera - something like the Sony a7 mark IV and a fast 1.4f or 2.8f lens are good starters, and can be found on Amazon, Bhphoto, or local retailers like Best Buy and maybe a camera store near you. Yay! Shop local!
2) Good audio - something simple like the DJI Mic 2 or a little higher end like the Tascam TM-250U (used in this video) or a boom mic like the Sennheiser MKE 600 are all great sounding audio options depending on your budget. If you want that podcast sound, the Shure SM7B is sure to sound good.
3) Good lighting - without good lighting your video won't pop! Something like the Neewer GL1 or GL1C are both budget options with great light for close up - or something higher end like the Aputure LightDome and 200x COB lights will have a little more output for brighter rooms. The key is to just control the light in your space and dial in the balance.

Hey everyone! 🎥 Ever wondered what makes a video testimonial truly awesome and memorable? Let's chat about the key ingredients that take a testimonial from good to absolutely amazing:

- **Keep it Real**: The best testimonials are all about being real. People can tell when someone’s being genuine, and that honesty builds trust.

- **Speak from the Heart**: It’s all about sharing true feelings and experiences. When someone speaks from the heart, it really connects with the audience.

- **Go with the Flow**: A natural delivery makes everything feel more relatable and believable. It’s that spontaneous vibe that grabs attention.

- **Tell Your Story**: A great testimonial shares the journey and transformation someone experienced with your company. It’s all about showing the impact your product or service had.

- **Highlight the Wins**: Make sure to clearly share the awesome outcomes and benefits. This helps others see the value they can get too.

- **Short and Sweet**: While being thorough, keep it concise. A well-crafted testimonial gets the message across without any extra fluff, keeping everyone engaged.

Creating videos for the wind industry really takes video production to new heights—both literally and creatively. I had the incredible opportunity to work on a project for 3s Climb Auto Lift System, a game-changing innovation that effectively acts as an elevator for wind turbine technicians (though they surely avoid the term "elevator" - it's the easiest thing to imagine). It allows workers to safely ascend and descend these towering 300+ foot structures without having to climb or break a sweat. Whether bundled up for sub-zero temps or 100+ degree days, they are a GAME CHANGER for extending the time wind techs stay in the industry.

And as a Director of Photography, this project was not just a gig —it was an adventure.

Our team provided both the camera crew and editing services, and the highlight was, without a doubt, capturing footage from atop a live, running, wind turbine. Standing on the nacelle, about 85 to 100 meters above the ground—roughly the length of a football field turned vertical—was a mind-blowing (hehehe) experience.

All the myths about wind energy were immediately debunked when I saw it for myself: it was eerily quiet, there were no dead birds around, just the sheer magnificence of renewable energy in action in an AWE form.

The view from up there was breathtaking—looking down at the ground far below while seeing workers and the rest of our camera crew standing like tiny figures hundreds of feet away. Yes, it was a little intimidating, but it was also a reminder of the scale and importance of the wind industry in powering our future.

If you're fascinated by energy production, especially clean, sustainable energy, I can't recommend enough that you explore opportunities in the wind sector. The pay is incredible, the job is hard work but inside and outside, and you work on a mission.

And for any company leaders in the US who want to tell their story with cinematic, documentary-style video content, ProvidFilms.com is the perfect partner to help bring your brand’s message to life.

The future of energy is on the horizon, and it’s an exhilarating place to be.

Often people say "I'm shy on camera". So how do you reduce shyness for clients on camera? Well, given we're dealing with real people who are not actors or actresses, it's important to remember that UNCERTAINTY is really what drives shyness. People get because they don't know what's coming - or they don't know what you want from me.

So if we say "here's a script based off the goals" for your 30 second or 60 second video - they will often say it's really helpful. You might only provide this script on-site, or you may provide it to them before so they can run it through legal (depending on industry and topic).

Yes, you are going to do the testimonial as a conversation so it's natural - but you give them a direction to take it. You help them understand you're not live, you'll do multiple takes.

Every one of these things help reduce fears of "what if I don't do this correct". You're telling them - "it's ok if you don't do it correct, we'll do another take, there is NO perfect." The script is just the guardrails for the conversation.

You will be shocked! People are not so shy when they know what's coming and they know how you want them to act. Hope these tips helped so you don't have to deal with ever again.

How do you make customers comfortable on camera? Well, that starts all the way back to the moment you reach out to customers. How are you engaging with them? Think about it. Are you doing it in a way that makes them comfortable on camera? - During your interview - posing! Have them sit in a way that is comfortable but just looks good! They should look and sound great - so that they're excited or proud of how good they look! Get them saying "dang, I actually look really good!"

Many times we'll have subjects / talent ask to pull out their phone and get a photo of themselves because they look so good with that lighting, background, etc.

Make them feel so good they ask if you can send them a headshot from your video shoot.

Also - offer them a lot of encouragement and tips to do a good job. They'll not only feel comfortable but confident saying they felt confident - they had a great experience.

Anyways, that's how I make customers feel comfortable on camera.

How do you handle video editing and post-production for testimonial videos? Start by going through your video footage with your script. Make sure you've hit everything you want included - paying particular attention to the customer transformation working with you: - before working with you - during working with you - after working with you

How did they pick you? Have the entire framework and then just start layering the soundbytes and answers so that it flows nicely and seamlessly - and as little cuts as possible is always preferred because it shows genuine answers.

One take is ideal, but not required.

Add captions

Use b-roll footage to "show don't tell" - and that can help smooth out transitions.

The main difference is you try to get everyone in one take or at least so that it looks like one take to the viewer.

12/09/2024

How do you get started with video testimonials?
It can be daunting but it doesn't have to be!
Just start with your KEY (or IDEAL) customers who you want to have more like.
- they have the best budgets
- they are your repeat customers
What do they look like?
Identify those customers you've already worked with that have had really amazing outcomes.
Put THOSE people into your video testimonials!

Next, come up with questions that your customers (or potential customers) have about the likelihood of success.

What are those questions they have?
What are their fears?
What does the process of working with you actually look like?

Create a list of the entire process from the perspective of the customer.

Lastly, SCHEDULE your filming day that works with your business and your camera crew.
This could be an annual event, a gala, a company meeting, etc.

Pick a big event that everyone is in-town for anyways and you can just pull people away for 10 to 15 minutes of their time and get dozens of testimonials recorded in one day.
