Doyle Turner has reached in his pocket and pulled out a beautiful little record, Paper Maps. I had pleasure of collaborating with my fellow Bemidjian as well as Sarah Morris, Dan Schwartz, Matt Blake, Taylor James Donskey… and the list goes on. So do yourself a favor - shut your phone off. Go to a gas station and ask for an actual paper map, unfold it, find St. Joseph and make your way up there this Saturday night.

The new album will be released in an intimate and warm venue. These players in this setting will be an experience. You are invited!

It’s at this time of year that we all look for a way to get out of town, perhaps to a lake or a river or a cabin somewhere. I was in the recording studio yesterday working with some fine musicians and we got to talking about these serene places and the peace and calm and center that we find there. They played a composition inspired by Ethel and Stanley, a pair of loons they had encountered near Tofte. It’s the pause and the listening and the looking that makes these kinds of experiences happen. Marley was a firm believer in stopping to listen and look. What he saw would filter through him and end up on paper and canvas. This Gouache on Paper painting from 1978 is called Loon Drop. The painting, along with its partner, Loon Lift, and hundreds of other works will be published in his upcoming retrospective book. We can’t wait to share it with you!
