Today, I can’t let the day pass without expressing my deep gratitude for our law enforcement officers and the families who stand behind them.

This job is not an easy one—it’s often thankless, incredibly stressful, and requires unwavering dedication. Every day, these men and women step up to serve and protect, facing challenges that most of us can’t imagine.

To the families who support their loved ones in law enforcement: your strength and sacrifice do not go unnoticed. Behind every officer is a network of people who worry, pray, and hold everything together.

We owe a debt of gratitude to those who wear the badge and the loved ones who stand with them. Thank you for your service and commitment to keeping our communities safe.

💙 If you know an officer or their family, take a moment to thank them today. Let them know their hard work and sacrifice matter.

Congratulations to Keith Osbourn for completing his probationary period. Keith has been doing this for a number of years and comes to us from Lindale VFD. Several of us have worked with him over the years and we are glad to have him.

Today, January 9, we’ll join the nation in honoring former President Jimmy Carter, a man whose life was defined by service, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to helping others.

As the 39th President of the United States (1977-1981), Carter worked tirelessly to promote peace and human rights, with achievements like the Camp David Accords that helped bring stability to the Middle East.

But what’s truly remarkable is how he continued to serve long after leaving the White House. Through the Carter Center, he worked to eradicate Guinea worm disease and supported democracy and health initiatives worldwide. And let’s not forget his dedication to Habitat for Humanity, where he didn’t just lead—he picked up a hammer and worked alongside volunteers to build homes for those in need.

President Carter’s life teaches us that leadership doesn’t stop with a title—it’s about actions, big and small, that make the world a better place.

As we remember him on this National Day of Mourning, let’s take a moment to reflect: How can we carry forward his legacy of kindness, peace, and service?

❄️ Baby, It’s Cold Outside! ❄️

East Texas isn’t built for this kind of weather—and let’s be honest, neither are most of us. If the roads are slick, and you already struggle with driving on a sunny day, it might be time to stay home.

🚗 Driving Tips for the Brave Souls Who Must Go Out:
1. Pretend your car is an egg, and your gas pedal is a baby chick—be gentle.
2. If you see a patch of ice, don’t panic… but also, don’t hit the brakes like you’re trying to win a race.
3. For the love of East Texas, don’t tailgate.

💡 Or, you know… just stay home. It’s cozy, the coffee is warm, and Netflix isn’t judging your driving skills.

🛑 A Note to Help First Responders:
Let’s make their jobs a little easier by not adding “skidding off the road” to their list of emergencies. Stay safe, stay warm, and stay off the roads if you can!

Good afternoon everyone,

Weather forecasts continue to show a high probability of Winter Weather across the East Texas region on Thursday, January 9th, and Friday, January 10th. A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Wood County. Therefore, Mineola ISD will be closed on Thursday, January 9th, and Friday, January 10th.

All Extracurricular Activities that are scheduled for Friday evening and Saturday will be determined as we watch this weather event unfold. If you currently have an animal at the school barn as part of our Mineola FFA Chapter, please make sure that you take proper procedures so that they are well taken care of before the storm.

Have a great rest of the week and please be careful if you have to be on the roads during this time.

Our best,

Cody Mize
Superintendent
