I go around to wherever ever I travel (and I be in these streets baby) and photograph street art. It is the art of the people. Even if it is just a star quickly sprayed on some path, in some land where I don’t speak the language. It is an expression. It is someone documenting their existence, just as me seeing it is an acknowledgment of mine.

Deeply personal reflection
As Palestinian artists born and raised in Milwaukee, we are incredibly proud of the love and support we have received from our art community and beyond. We are working hard to find an adequate space to showcase the censored show, and hope to share details soon.
In the meantime, please consider donating to our GoFundMe (https://gofund.me/d556a100) and help us cover art exhibition costs. Costs like space rental, featured artist stipends (spoken word), minor printing costs (event promotion, artwork labels, etc.) and a grazing table are our usual expenses.
Thank you!

Here are a few snaps from our recent @acluofwi + @acluwistudents workshop for their Summer Justice Institute which works with adolescents to combine the act of creating art with civic engagement. This year my Co- Facilitator is @a.rubiluciano_art. We patterned our workshop after her sculpture first exhibited at @walkerspointart hello how are you doing? Thank you. Is it bleeding or you can’t and created paper sculptures in which student considers social issues that most mattered to them and their communities. Using poetry, problem statements, and creating a paper sculpture symbolic of the changes they want to see in their communities. Happy Woman’s Month! This months Genre’s On Your Radar presents artists @mariaguimaraes and @livmke On Your Radar for @genreurbanarts by @genesisrenji of our Revolutionary Art and Culture Residency.
Do you know @akindelejohnn and his work? Akindele John’s paintings are distinctive in their use of loose, playful lines and softness of brush effect. His work appears to gaze vividly back at us; they engage silently back-and-forth on an unspoken negotiation. His works explore different aspects of the African diaspora and pays homage to his Nigerian identity. His paintings are back lit by vibrant hues— luminous yellows, oranges, reds, pinks, purples, and blues. Visit our site to purchased a print or an original work today!
Meet @a.rubiluciano_art of @genreurbanarts’ Revolutionary Art and Culture Residency. Amanda Rubí’s writing and content creation focuses on the ways in which colonization has stolen artifacts, whitewashed histories, and silenced stories of Indigenous peoples. Stay tuned. More to come! The Revolutionary Art and Culture Residency is supported by @criticalminded_community, the Milwaukee Art Museum, Wisconsin Humanities, and the Milwaukee Press Club. Thank you for your support!

Genre: Urban Arts is a playground for creatives. Our global contributorship includes artists who are committed to their crafts from photography to spoken-word. We also offer exhibiting & performing opportunities for visual & performance artists via pop-up galleries. Anyone can submit their work to be published in our print magazine & on our site.
Founder and Editor-in-chief, Nakeysha Roberts Washington, launched Genre: Urban Arts in December 2015 as a quarterly magazine publication & a blog featuring daily site posts from contributors. We are based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but home to 60+ creatives who all have their own medium in which they create— Their own Genre.
Genre: Urban Arts is a true friend to the creative, a support for the artist in a world that wants us to end our dance with our connection to divinity- end our connection with the most innate part of ourselves. Here we are protected & freed from the societal pressures of mundanity.
We welcome you, #GenreFam!
