Howdy, Montana.

DAYBREAK’s home base has always been fluid. We grew from the Great Lakes and the Northwoods, and the Midwest will always be home to us. But the moment we felt our first sunrise through the golden valleys of Montana we knew this is where we needed to be.

With that, we’re so excited to share that we’ve expanded our (and ‘s) operations to Montana! We are so stoked to deepen our connections and roots with such a beautiful creative community in such a storied landscape.

We’ll see y’all soon. 🍻

is an indie folk band from Waterville, Ohio. Over the past few years, the trio has built a catalog of tunes that has fueled road trip playlist after road trip playlist.

From the start, founding members Mike Belazis and Devin East were surrounded in the rich, wooded hills and cold rivers of Northern Ohio. Though the band’s still rooted there, their sound has expanded to landscape after landscape as they’ve steadily grown across the country.

DAYBREAK V.7 - Submissions Open!

The morning is crisp and blue. Glowing silhouettes of pines stand tall all around, swaying ever so slightly in the breeze that creaks the settling walls. The coffee warming your left hand is half full as you grab the frozen door k**b with your right. With a heavy creak and howl of air, the morning greats you with a prickly pat to the cheeks and eyebrows. Like a friendly slap from an old friend putting you back in place—welcomed but uncomfortable.

In DAYBREAK V.7, we’re taking a long morning walk while we breathe in the crisp air and bathe in the morning light. We’re searching for stories revolving around the ideas of Heavy Eyes, In Motion, Deep Breath, First Light, and Crisp Air.

Cheers to winter and cheers to you. We’ll see you out there.

Submission Deadline: December 8th, 2024

Between stints working within the bounds of the creative industry, illustrator has found continued reprieve stepping off the grid to work a ranch for a season at a time.

Since he first stepped on a ranch, Western and ranchlands influences have grown more and more prevalent in his artwork. Jess is now widely known as one of the biggest hitters in the simple and clean Western graphics and illustration world. Recently, he’s worked with the likes of and as well as completed murals across the globe.

Jess is a skate rat who’s grown into a top tier illustrator. He’s been a favorite of ours for years, and we finally tracked him down to dive into his process, past, and what he’s got cooking.

“You Never Regret A Swim” with is a cover story for DAYBREAK V.6: The In-Between that we are honored to share.

For 20 years, has been a staple of the Great Lakes’ surf scene. The shop is located in Empire, MI, a small town at the base of Sleeping Bear Dunes at the north end of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. The storied dunes tower 450’ over the shores of Lake Michigan, and are the type of site people don’t expect to see in the Midwest.

SBS was started, and is still owned and operated, by the Skrocki family. Beryl and Frank Skrocki made the move from the East side of the state in 2004, opening the shop’s doors shortly thereafter. From the start, SBSK has been known as a community hub with always open doors.

From countless community events to becoming a founding member of the Great Lakes Business Network, Beryl was all in, all the time.

Late in 2022, an unexpected diagnosis took Beryl from the family and community she had meticulously and joyfully woven herself into. That day the spirits of Lake Michigan gained a giant.

20 years since Beryl opened SBS’s doors, sisters Ella and Annabel have now taken the reins on the shop. Though they’re missing Beryl’s irreplaceable presence, the two are hard at work upholding the role that SBSK has played in the community since its birth.

is a Korean-American surf photographer and former animator for Bay Area brands like Apple and the Golden State Warriors. She called - a friend with a film camera - to Washington earlier this year to document a big transition in her life. Silvia was moving from a cabin that she had renovated herself in the backcountry to Oahu’s energetic North Shore. She’s since logged multiple photography laps at Pe’ahi and reflects on how her time “as a woman alone in the woods” prepared her to experience one of the ocean’s most frenetic landscapes.

For V.6, hopped in with the guys from Austin to LA. Between taco hunting in Texas, brain melting Arizona heat, and linking up with friends in the LA hills, we settled in quick to the rhythms of the road that keeps the band moving. After the fact, we sat back down with Mike to dive deeper into their Ohio roots, the band’s growth, and their upcoming record—including their recent single “Blood Moon”.

With DAYBREAK V.6, we’re continuing the tradition of printing a tattoo flash sheet inside of all our books. This time around, helped us make it happen.

The concept is simple: designs curated by us, by our favorite artists, for you to take to your favorite tattoo artists.

On top of the flash sheet, Jess has a cover feature in V.6. His cover is one of our most sought after yet, and if you’re hoping to grab one, do it now before they’re gone for good.
