Join us for next week Friday, January 31st 5-9pm for 43rd+Vliet: Create. Connect. Celebrate.

Denizen MKE, Washington Park Media Center, JazzyRae’ Jewels and Accessories, and Artists Working in Education (AWE) are thrilled to present 43rd+Vliet, a neighborhood event series in our creative small businesses in Milwaukee’s Washington Park area. On select Fridays from January to July 2025, our indoor and outdoor spaces will transform into lively artistic hubs showcasing performances, installations, media-making, refreshments and activities with local creatives. These events celebrate the neighborhood’s cultural diversity while fostering vibrant street life along Vliet Street.

At the heart of the series is a neighbor-focused streetscaping project, designed by us in collaboration with our neighbor Quorum Architects. Our sustainable landscape design will create welcoming and accessible gathering spaces with art, gardens, seating and other nourishing features. By responding to ideas generated by neighbors, 43rd+Vliet aims to cultivate a joyful, inclusive beacon where any neighbor can create, connect and celebrate.

Thanks to all who joined us for Nateya Taylor’s screening of “Something in the Water” tonight. This documentary shines a light on the lead crisis in Milwaukee’s water and begs the important public health question—why are we not talking about this more and what can be done about it? Taylor explores this by interviewing some of the people who are working on answering that question currently, as a part of an artist residency through . Someone left a sweet-looking Technics Digital Piano perfectly centered in front of our Media Center. We tried to plug it in to see if it works, but it has old plugs we don’t recognize... Swipe for some pictures of the plugs, maybe .milw has them? Looks nice if you can get it to work, feel free to come pick it up if you’re looking for a project!!

You’ll want to join us for a very special AV CLUB this coming Tuesday, January 14th at 5:30pm as we welcome guest media maker Nateya Taylor () for a screening of her latest film, SOMETHING IN THE WATER. After the screening we will have a collaborative hands-on demo where we will re-create the interview setup she used in the documentary, which just happens to have been filmed right here at . Our crockpots will be full of soup and mac n’ cheese. This event is free and open to the public! Hope you drop in and bring a friend! 🎞️ 🎥🌟
