Simon & Garfunkel's hits at Oldies Night!
From 1966 to 1990 there was rarely a time when the national music charts didn't include at least one recording by Paul Simon, or Art Garfunkel, or the two of them as a duo. Between them they landed 26 albums and 51 singles on the charts. Biggest singles: "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" for Paul, "All I Know" for art, and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" for the pair. On the album charts it was "Still Crazy After All These Years for Paul, "Breakaway" for Art, and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" as a duo.
You can enjoy dozens of their hits at the penultimate monthly Oldies Night in Milton-Freewater on Saturday, January 6 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. BJ the DJ celebrates 18 years of "cheap, trashy rock 'n' roll" programs at Wesley United Methodist Church with three hours of music from one of the most popular groups of the rock era. It all started in January 2006 at the publlc library and moved one block south to the church in 2015, after BJ retired as library director. There may be future Oldies Night programs for BJ, but the monthly ones will conclude in February.

Join us for ‘Oldies Night in Milton-Freewater’ on Freewater Square, corner of N. Main & S.E. 5th Avenue, this Saturday, 4-7 p.m.
Music will be provided by master DJ Bob Jones featuring 40 songs by 40 artists for years 1960-69.
Who is DJ Bob? In 2014 he retired from his position as the Director of the MF Library, where he had held his once a month ‘Oldies Night @ the Library’ since 2006. Since retiring he moved Oldies Night to the fellowship hall of the Methodist Church. He is an experienced DJ with an extensive knowledge of all genres of popular music from the 50’s to the 80’s, in fact he was a DJ for college radio stations in Iowa and Illinois in the '60s and '70s.
So if you don't have anything to do on Saturday - come on down and experience the sixties on Freewater Square - and feel free to dress up in a vintage 60's outfit - pretty sure some of you have some 60's clothing in the closet!!

Tom Petty @ Oldies Night

Oldies Night in Milton-Freewater will feature the music of Tom Petty on Saturday, August 6. It will be the 182nd time BJ the DJ has presented a program of "three hours of cheap, trashy rock 'n' roll" since originating the program in 2006.

While Tom Petty hit the national music charts dozens of times over more than 30 years, he is best known as the leader of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. His biggest hit with that group was "Free Fallin'," which made it to #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in early 1990. However, his biggest hit was with his group plus Stevie Nicks, singing "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around," a number 3 hit in 1981. In the late '80s he joined George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne, and Roy Orbison to form the Traveling Willburys, scoring several chart appearances with them.

Recordings of a variety of Petty's hits, from 1977 through 1993, will be featured at the local program. It will take place in the fellowship hall of Wesley United Methodist Church, 816 South Main Street in Milton-Freewater, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. on that Saturday evening. Admission is free, as is parking. While most Oldies Night programs feature hts from the mid-1950s to the mid-1980s, this one pushes the timeline forward to the early 1990s.

BJ will provide information about the songs, artists, songwriters, and the times to complete the program. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and provide facts as well.
