The big story this week:

Four arrests were made related to absentee ballot fraud in the 2019 election for mayor of Bridgeport. All four suspects are accused of violating state laws related to the handling of absentee ballots. Following the news, one politician highlighted that shady elections are NOT just a Bridgeport issue. Bob MacGuffie shared his insight on this. He is the Connecticut Republican endorsed candidate to run against Incumbent Democrat, Jim Himes for congress in Connecticut’s 4th District.

Last week, we learned about a Bridgeport Board of Education meeting that abruptly ended after a disagreement surrounding the superintendent’s evaluation. Days later, another meeting was held and it seemed like some board members were steam rolled over during a critical vote. We asked the Board Chair, Christine Batiste-Perez, what happened in these meetings and does it set a bad precedent moving forward?

We learned about the discovery of the Washington Rochambeau Trail in Newtown and its rich history dating back to the days of George Washington. However, this registered historic trail is apparently set to be developed. How can that be? We investigated the situation and spoke with Dave Akert. He is leading the fight to protect the land and push the town to reverse course on its plans.

Four arrests have been made related to absentee ballot fraud in the 2019 election for mayor of Bridgeport. The suspects, including Vice chair of the Democratic Town Committee, Wanda Geter-Pataky and city Councilman Alfredo Castillo, are all accused of violating state laws related to the handling of absentee ballots. Andrew Brown from CT Examiner was one of the first reporters to break the news this week. The Dan Hurley era continues at UConn. Hurley rejected a huge offer from the Los Angeles Lakers and will remain at UConn and try to win a third straight national championship. ESPN reports the offer from the Lakers was six years and $70-million dollars. But a big question from Connecticut residents: why wouldn’t he follow the fame and fortune of the NBA? We asked our local sports expert, Rob Adams, what probably played a role in this decision.

Earlier this week, a Bridgeport school board meeting ended suddenly without a resolution. Reports say the board was meeting to talk about the superintendent’s evaluation. After a dispute over the self-assessment discussion being private or public, the board chair reportedly signed off. What precedent does that set for board members and future meetings? We asked board member, Rob Traber, who was on the call during that meeting.
