Colder conditions can be expected this weekend with highs in the lower 20s for most locations, but mid 20s closer to the Michigan and Ohio state line. Dry conditions are also expected with partly sunny skies Saturday and mostly sunny skies Sunday.

TRAINING BURN - Today, your Milan Area Firefighters along with the Saline Area Fire Department will be conducting a live fire training burn. A big thank you to the Milan Federal Correctional Institute for providing the house and supplies needed for this invaluable training exercise. This is the 4th house they’ve donated to us this year, and we are incredibly grateful for their continued support.

Despite the challenging weather conditions, our firefighters are dedicated to honing their skills and preparing for real-world emergencies. These live fire training opportunities are rare but essential, allowing us to practice various tasks on a fire ground in a controlled environment.

You will see smoke in the area of Arkona Rd west of Sanford Rd throughout the day. The amount of smoke will vary depending on the training evolution being performed. Once the structure is no longer safe for entry, we will allow it to burn down in a controlled manner.

Thank you for your support as we work to serve our community, rain, shine, or snow.

Fat Quarter Bingo

Friday January 31st

$30

We will be playing in the large classroom space in the back of our shop (don’t forget we have switch shops and across the street now). We will still be including $5 towards your order from Life Is Sweet, just bring it back to our shop. The $30 includes 7 fat quarters and $5 towards anything from the bakery. We play 6 rounds of bingo, the first five rounds we divvy up the pot between multiply winners but the last round who ever calls Bingo first wins the entire pot!!! That leaves one fat quarter at the end for you to take, no matter what you at least get one.

We also added a new game we play between rounds of bingo, it’s like what they play at the end of let’s make a deal.

Snow will continue this morning in advance of low pressure passing to the southwest. The best developed pockets of snow may reduce visibilities to around 1 mile. Area roads will be snow packed and slick.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect for parts of the Tri-Cities for 3 to 5 inches of snowfall tonight through tomorrow morning. 1 to 3 inches of snowfall can be expected at most other locations. Brief lull in higher snow rates after 8 am before lake effect showers develop bringing additional accumulation potential of 1 to 2 inches during the late morning and afternoon hours, especially across the northern/eastern Thumb tomorrow afternoon. Temperatures turn much colder tomorrow night and Saturday as snow potential across the Thumb ends.

Beware of Brushing Scam!

A recent scam has been showing up in many states. A "brushing" scam is when someone receives an unexpected gift or item not ordered in the mail from a place like Amazon or other company. Examples of gifts include, rings, bracelets, necklaces, Bluetooth speaker, etc. The gift will have the recipient’s address, but not include the sender's information or be from a known retailer. When the recipient opens the package to see what it is and possibly who sent it, there is a QR code to scan to find out who sent the gift.

Once the code is scanned, all the information from that phone will be sent to scammers. They receive all access to the phone. All personal and financial information is accessible to the scammers and often the victim's bank accounts are drained.

The gift can be kept or thrown away, but the QR code should NOT be scanned for any reason. QR code scams are nothing new. These scams show up in all places, including parking meters.

Inform your family members about the scam and avoid scanning any unknown QR codes included in the package.
