What does it mean to be Mayor of Midland? I sat down with Jeaneen Pruitt Lyson to talk about Midland’s city governance and my passion for improving the quality of life in Midland, Texas.

The median age in Midland is 31.4 years old and it’s very important to invest in things that young families want to see in Midland. There is motivation to pursue public/private partners from community-minded leaders to find private investments to help fund quality of life and place projects. While the City shouldn’t fund every idea, we must have foresight and friendly processes for the growth in our city. The City’s job is to meet the needs of citizens today, while still planning for the future.

I hope you’ll take the time to listen to our conversation. We covered a range of topics, including infrastructure, downtown revitalization, future growth, recognizing City staff, balancing work-life and affordable housing.

I’m asked many times especially in women’s forums, “How do you do it all?" The answer is, you don’t. We are all juggling a lot of balls; some are glass and some are rubber. Glass balls break when they are dropped. My husband and my kids are glass balls, and I am careful not to drop them. But sometimes, in order to protect the glass balls, we have to choose to let some rubber balls drop with the knowledge that we can pick them back up in another season.

This new year, I pray you find peace and a gentle reminder that the glass balls in our lives are most precious. Hold tight to the time with your family and friends and always put people first.
