CPD officers Eric Lisoski and Nolan Mancera honored with Lifesaving Award

Chesterton Police Chief Tim Richardson had the pleasure to honor Sgt. Eric Lisoski and Officer Nolan Mancera with the Lifesaving Award at the Police Commission’s meeting on Thursday, Dec. 12.

Lisoski and Mancera were recognized for their cool and expert actions on the night of Feb 5, 2024, when they responded to a report of a possible stabbing on South Sixth Street.

According to the citation read by Richardson, on their arrival at the scene Lisoski and Mancera made contact with a “disoriented and injured male” who advised that he’d been attacked while delivering groceries. “This individual also admitted to using a knife in self-defense,” Richardson noted.

The officers’ interview of the man, however, was interrupted by “a voice calling for help from a nearby residence,” prompting Lisoski and Mancera to trace the voice to a home where, near its front door, they observed “a substantial amount of blood, signaling a severe injury within,” Richardson said.

On entering the home, Lisoski and Mancera found an individual “seated in the kitchen, bleeding profusely from a stab would to the arm,” Richardson said. “Recognizing the critical nature of the injury, Sgt. Lisoski applied a tourniquet high on the subject’s arm while Officer Mansera assisted in securing it and stabilizing the victim. Their immediate actions effectively stopped the life-threatening hemorrhage, buying precious time for emergency medical services to arrive and transport the victim for advanced care.”

“The decisive actions of Sgt. Lisoski and Officer Mancera demonstrate exceptional composure, teamwork, and dedication to preserving life under extreme pressure,” Richardon concluded his presentation. “Their rapid assessment and application of lifesaving medical aid undoubtedly prevented a very tragic outcome, and the subject involved in this incident made a full recovery.”

Well done, Sgt. Lisoski and Officer Mancera, and thank you for your professionalism and your commitment to this community.
