Frame Grabs color grading session 🎨📷📽️🎞️

🎥🎬 Documentary filmmaking is a unique experience that demands creativity and adaptability. Most of the time, we work with a minimal crew, allowing us to embrace a naturalistic approach and let the story unfold organically.

We captured a short documentary about a master bookbinder named Dany.🏙️

⌛️⏳ For over 30 years, he has been restoring books and preserving the rare art of repairing old books and historical documents.

His craft, passed down through three generations, is becoming increasingly rare as fewer people continue to work in this disappearing industry.🗜️📠

This project was shot on Sony Cinema Cameras with a full-frame 1.6x anamorphic lens set.

🎥🎥 Laowa Ranger FF Cine Zooms are very impressive.🔥🔥

The Laowa Rangers are a set of two relatively fast cine zoom lenses, both coming in at T2.9—which I’d say is pretty standard these days. They cover a solid range of focal lengths, with one going from 28-75mm and the other from 75-180mm, a wider range lens is coming to round up the set. 👌✅

What stood out to me was the focus falloff. It’s incredibly smooth, with the out-of-focus areas blending beautifully without being distracting. The bokeh is clean and natural, and the lenses have almost no focus breathing, which is seriously impressive.

After working with all kinds of cinema zoom lenses over the years, I’ve come to believe there’s no such thing as a “good” or “bad” lens—it’s all about finding the right lens for the job. As a cinematographer, choosing the right zoom or prime set is crucial because it lets you better support the project’s vision.

At the end of the day, every lens can do the job. But picking the right one? That’s what really makes the difference.

We had the opportunity to get involved in this ongoing series for an incredible project. The director, Gena Sims, has brought a remarkable sensibility to bring this project together and push it forward.

The series, titled “The Voice Inside” (TVI), is an Autism series for Miami schools. TVI builds awareness, confidence, and empathy in parents, students, and teachers alike, focusing on the inner strength individuals possess during challenging times. “The Voice Inside” demonstrates that, regardless of our life circumstances, we can still achieve great things.

Collaborating with Gena Sims on this project has been an amazing experience, and it’s been an honor to support her vision as it comes to life. She is definitely a great director and an excellent communicator.

Special thanks to our great colleague and friend, , who invited us to be one of the production partners for this series. The project was shot on Sony Cinema Line cameras with G-Master lenses.

As the project continues with more episodes to be filmed, I’m excited to share these BTS shots from our previous production days. Stay tuned for this incredible content, and if you can support it in any way, it would be fantastic!
