The Atlanta City Council has approved a $2 million donation to Star-C Corporation, a nonprofit dedicated to rental assistance that has already raised $16.5 million and helped over 5,000 families. This new funding will provide:

✨ Up to $7,000 in relief for low-income households earning $62,000 (family of four) or $43,000 (individual)
✨ Support for families facing temporary income loss, helping to prevent evictions and maintain housing stability

“When you are already challenged financially, you are only one bad day or one serious health emergency from not being able to pay your rent or mortgage,” said Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens.

With over 144,000 eviction filings in 2023, this initiative—part of the city’s $100 million housing bond—aims to create lasting change and protect Atlanta’s most vulnerable residents.

✨ Celebrating Heroes for Hope ✨

The annual Heroes for Hope event brought together community leaders, corporations, and passionate advocates to honor the incredible efforts of individuals and organizations dedicated to ending homelessness in Atlanta.

This year’s honorees included:
🌟 Mayor Andre Dickens: Individual Hero for Hope, recognized for his commitment to sustainable solutions for homelessness.
🌟 QuikTrip, accepted by President Kevin Thornton: Corporate Hero for Hope, honored for leadership and community involvement.
🌟 Cheryl Naja, board member of Hope Atlanta: First-ever Volunteer Hero of the Year for her unwavering advocacy.

The evening raised an incredible $780,000 to support Hope Atlanta’s mission, focusing on holistic solutions that address housing, mental health, and the root causes of homelessness.

In a game-changing announcement, Mayor Andre Dickens shared the City of Atlanta’s $1 million investment from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund to expand clinical services at supportive housing sites, providing essential behavioral health care and crisis intervention.

Together, we’re creating lasting change for Atlanta’s most vulnerable neighbors. 💛

The Home Depot Foundation is making a profound impact in the fight against veteran homelessness, investing $9 million to provide housing for over 3,400 veterans. Through partnerships with national nonprofits like Volunteers of America, Housing Assistance Council, and Tunnel to Towers, as well as local organizations in Georgia, Ohio, and Massachusetts, this initiative will:

🔹 Build 300+ new housing units
🔹 Repair nearly 200 existing units
🔹 Launch landlord incentive programs to help veterans overcome housing barriers

In Atlanta, the Foundation’s LOVE (Landlord, Organizations, and Veterans Engagement) Fund is empowering nonprofits like Open Doors Atlanta to collaborate with landlords and address obstacles like poor credit or past evictions.

🎉 The Season of Hope Gala transformed the Atlanta History Center on December 5th. Hosted by the Marcus Autism Center in association with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, this signature event raised critical funds for life-changing autism care and research.

🌟 On December 7th, the Youth Empowerment Gala at Atlanta Metropolitan State College empowered attendees while raising funds for enrichment programs, mentorship, and wellness initiatives through the A.D. King Foundation.

✨ Also on December 7th, the 3rd Annual Sickle Cell Black Tie Gala lit up the Westin Atlanta Airport with a night of glamour and advocacy for sickle cell awareness, followed by an exciting after-party.

🎭 The 2024 UNCF Mayor’s Masked Ball brought national celebrities, civic leaders, and advocates together to celebrate and support the importance of education and historically Black colleges and universities. This premier event highlighted the impact of education in shaping futures.
