Harry Potter: The Return of the Dark Lord (2025) brings the Wizarding World back to life in an epic new chapter, reuniting familiar faces and introducing new threats. Directed by David Yates, this highly anticipated continuation of the Harry Potter saga sees Daniel Radcliffe reprising his role as Harry Potter and Ralph Fiennes returning as the menacing Voldemort. Though the Dark Lord was defeated at the Battle of Hogwarts, the trailer reveals shocking twists that threaten the peace of the wizarding and Muggle worlds.
The trailer opens with a somber tone, showing Harry Potter living a quiet life as an Auror, with scenes of him and his family—Ginny, and their children—at the Burrow. However, an ominous storm begins to gather over Hogwarts, and strange occurrences, including dark magic artifacts reappearing, signal that something dangerous is brewing. Harry feels a familiar sense of dread, recalling his previous battles with Voldemort, even though the Dark Lord was supposedly vanquished.
The Ministry of Magic, led by Hermione Granger (Emma Watson), begins an investigation into the disturbances, only to uncover a chilling truth. A mysterious cult of dark wizards, calling themselves “The Circle of Shadows,” has risen, and they are seeking to resurrect Voldemort using forbidden magic. Led by a powerful new villain, Morgath (played by a new actor), the Circle believes that Voldemort’s spirit never truly left the world and can be restored to his full power.
As dark forces spread across the Wizarding World, Harry is once again thrust into the role of hero, this time reluctantly, as he knows the danger that lies ahead. He teams up with Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione to investigate the rise of this dark cult. The trailer hints at Harry’s personal struggle, torn between his responsibilities as a father and the need to confront his past one last time. Harry even consults the portrait of Dumbledore (Michael Gambon), who cryptically warns him that “not all victories are final.”
