***** update SINCE SOME OF YOU ARE SO WORRIED ABOUT MY STEPS AND THE “BUSH”” NEXT TO THE CLEMATIS … WE DONT USE THOSE STEPS OR THAT DOOR. WE ARE SAFE FROM HARM! THERES A DESK ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THAT DOOR. THE BUSH ON THE OTHER SIDE IS A HYDRANGEA THAT BLOOMS ON OLD WOOD , SO I WILL NOT BE CUTTING IT. SOME OF YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO STOP AND ADMIRE THE PRETTY FLOWERS AND NOT PASS JUDGEMENT AND IT SHOWS🙄🙄🙄******Someone told me if i cut this back after it flowers, it will flower a second time this summer. This is 25 years of growth and I’m not willing to take that gamble.

After months of starting seeds, growing and tending my vegetable gardens. Harvesting and canning, dehydrating and freezing. Garden season is starting to come to a close.
We have had a bumper crops this season, and so beyond grateful. Especially with the cost of food!!
Everything in my cellar was grown in our organic and pesticides free gardens 😍
Good ole chicken p**p and compost are rocket fuel.
Thankfully this year squash bugs gave me a break.
We use bug nets, diatomaceous earth, bug strips and hand squishing. Along with marigolds and companion planting. But it can be frustrating!!
What you see is 90% made this year. We still had lots of salsa and canned tomatoes, so we planted less of those and more peppers this year etc
I'm all self taught. I've read and read and read some more. Made plenty of mistakes. But if this is what your passionate about..you'll figure it out.
My 2 daughters are my biggest helpers and it feels wonderful learning and passing this knowledge to them. I know my granny is looking down proud of following in her footsteps.
So having a coffee while feeling like a squirrel all stocked up for the winter!!!
(Shelves are 18inchs deep and reinforced)
Love from Ontario Canada
(Not portuguese just love the Good luck rooster)

Every year, I have a Northern Mockingbird make her nest on my front porch on one of my many plant racks. Last year, she made her nest on my tall baker's rack. One of her babies fell thru the wire rack and landed in my staghorn fern cedar box. I carefully returned him to the nest, which made her very happy. This year, while potting my plants, she began her nest on the same rack. As she sat on my porch railing, I sat and quietly talked to her and asked if she could please please, make her nest on the opposite rack that holds all my succulents and cacti, as I don't have to water them often. She'd placed only two small twigs on my pothos rack, which I carefully moved to my cacti rack. Then as always, I put out a small dish of water and birdseed for her. My husband thinks I've been in the sun too long, having a conversation with a Mockingbird. This morning I woke to this

Ok….I need some help from my plant people🙏🙏

So a week ago I was doing some mowing on our zero turn, in an area that we’ve never mowed. Anyways, the day after (I believe) my wrist started becoming VERY itchy and then all these bumps appeared. It has still been itchy as he!!…I find I’m waking myself up in middle of the night digging ny nails into it!!! I’ve been putting hydrocortisone cream and calamine on it but it won’t stop😭😭 I was thinking Poison Oak, but now Im not so sure cause it’s still itching and inflamed!! What’s y’all’s thoughts and suggestions!!! Right now I would rub cow p**p on it if I was told the itching would stop😭😭

I always make extra dough to make my focaccia with a little art. I find it very relaxing with a glass of wine 🍷
Proof your yeast
1 1/2 t yeast
1 /2 t sugar
Warm water.Should look like a latte after around 15 mins.
Add 5 cups 00 flour ( this makes a large one)
And a generous pinch of salt, I use Italian sea salt.
In your mixer blend with more water until it’s slightly sticky.
Turn out onto a floured surface and hand knead until you feel it getting elastic and soft, I do mine for 10 mins.
Let rise..I let mine rise inside my oven yesterday then covered it and put in fridge.( 24 hours later)
Today I took it out and let it rise again.
I put it in the pan which was bigger than my usual .. and let it rise a little before working on the art.
Usually it’s much more airy so I’m going back to my regular flour.
Next time I’m making a lower carb one!

Just a reminder for people. This is what our Northern Spy apples look like grown with no sprays or pesticides, straight from the tree. They have water marks, bug bites, weird shapes and turn brown 5 minutes after you bit into it.
But the taste !!!!
If you see "organic" apples in grocery store, you can compare the difference.
Unfortunately most people would not purchase these, but perfer the shiny perfect apple.
But my Granny always said...if the bugs eat it, then you know it's real 😀

My garden is located in a shady area among rows and rows of pine trees. Everything is in containers except for numerous boxwoods and several daylilies. I did this because my flowers did poorly in the acidic soil and I could not plant my flowers where I wanted to because of the tree roots. I also add garden whimsies I make and treasures I find at yard sales and thrift stores to my garden for extra interest. I water by hand and pray for rain. I live in Virginia in the United States.

I lost my gardening partner very unexpectedly and tragically this past week and I can't bring myself to go out in my backyard now. It used to bring me such joy and peace to play in my plants and my sweet Titan would always lay next to me while I worked. I haven't known at all how to handle this feeling, not just my loss but what made me happy is now something that makes me sad. It breaks my heart to go in my backyard now. I don't know what to do, I'm bawling as I post this, but this group always makes me feel good and I thought maybe if I shared with yall it would help ❤🐶💔😭

This is the Creek fire in the mountains east of Fresno California. This fire storm from hell has burned 172,000 acres in 3 days. Burning through communities with very little time to evacuate. Right now it is bearing down on family and friends. I spent the day packing the necessities not knowing if I will every come home again. Send your prayers our way, we will need them.

A beautiful Story🌿🌼🌸
"I live in an 1870s farmhouse in California. While gardening one day last year, I espied a glint of gold! I had dug up a thick gold band! I rinsed it off and found that it was inscribed inside, Elinor Aberdeen 1870. I have lived in this house for 38 years and this was by far the most interesting thing I have ever found!
I called my friend Sharlene Van Rooy, who is a historical detective buff, and together we spent hours of research finding all the previous owners of the house.
Finally, we "struck gold". We discovered that the local postmaster, Llewellyn Thornton, had lived in the house between 1892-1901, and he had a grandmother named Elinor Aberdeen!
Elinor was born in Ireland in 1808. She had one daughter with John Aberdeen in 1833. This daughter married and came to California. Elinor stayed in Kentucky. She died on July 1, 1880 at the age of 72 and was buried in Versailles, Kentucky.
Elinor's grandson lived in my house after Elinor had died. Logic tells us that the ring was lost by one of his family members here in my yard between 1892-1901. And I found it approximately 122 years later!
My friend Sharlene and I were able to find the great great granddaughter of Elinor Aberdeen, Mary Doherty, just a few hours away. We met, had a lovely lunch together, and gave her back her long lost family heirloom!
*Update: I didn't realize this story was going to be so popular! I would like to thank you for all the lovely compliments! I don't know how many I can answer, but I will do what I can! 👍"
