A flowered Christmas tree.

This dried flower tree at Winterthur has been delighting guests since the 1980s. All of the flowers are collected and dried from the property throughout the season. Each year is different depending on what performed well in the gardens that year.

I had to share my double Hollyhocks!! I'm in TOTAL LOVE!!!

It took 18months, from 1 little seedling to 5 thick stalked 6ft plant. Zone5b.

Oh my! I am humbled to see this much appreciation for our Hollyhock. Many of you have asked simple queries about the care:
* Zoning. Plants thrive when they are compatible to the zone, cold region plants suffer in hot regions, even if they survive somehow and vice-versa.
* Soil.
I love to ammend soil in every spring by adding compost and aged manure.
* insecticide.
Instead of using insecticides, I prefer bringing birds and bees to my yard, as insecticide can damage good bugs too.
* Watering.
I keep my yard on the dryer side and water them on soil level, I don't shower foilage or flowers, as it is the big cause of rust, generally my plants are not on schedule, when foilage looks thirsty, I water them, if it's a rainy season, I don't water.
* Food.
I fertilize with aged manure, compost tea and even chemical fertilizers, although keeping it half strength of what's recommended so they don't burn the roots.
*Sun and air circulation
Our Hollyhock get morning Sun and afternoon shade, spacing them helps as good air circulation is needed too.
