🚨 Two Arrested for Murder in Fentanyl Overdose in Denison 🚨

On Thursday, September 5, officers responded to a call in the Perrin Estates area where a woman was discovered unconscious. Despite efforts by Denison Fire personnel to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the scene by the Justice of the Peace.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased as 20-year-old Macie Joe Chastain, determining that her death was caused by multidrug toxicity, which included methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Investigative findings revealed that Andrew Michael Smith, 34, provided fentanyl-laced pills to Chastain prior to her death. Additionally, evidence indicated that Gregory Noah Honesty III, 27, sold these pills to Smith, who then supplied them to Chastain.

On Thursday, November 21, Denison PD, in collaboration with the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force, arrested Andrew Michael Smith on a murder warrant in the 700 block of East Gandy Street in Denison. He is currently held at the Grayson County Jail, with bail yet to be determined.

❗️ At the time of Chastain’s death, Gregory Noah Honesty was out on bond for a previous murder charge related to a fatal fentanyl overdose in Princeton, Texas. He is currently incarcerated in Collin County and has been charged with an additional murder count for his involvement in Chastain's death.

This marks the first instance of fentanyl-related murder arrests in Grayson County since the implementation of a new state law on September 1, 2023, which established a criminal offense for supplying fentanyl that leads to death.

The Denison Police Department remains committed to combating the fentanyl crisis, supporting victims and their families, and diligently working to safeguard the community from its harmful impacts.

‼️ Kyle Man given Life without Parole for the Murder of a 7 Month Old Baby ‼️

The outstanding efforts of the Kyle Police Department’s Criminal Investigations and Patrol Division resulted in the arrest and subsequent conviction for Capital Murder following the tragic death of an infant.

Mark Anthony Briones, 34, from Kyle, faced charges of Capital Murder related to the death of a 7-month-old girl.

On June 20, 2022, Briones brought the unresponsive infant to Seton Hays Hospital, where she was subsequently airlifted to Dell Children’s Medical Center. Despite resuscitation attempts, she was declared brain dead a few days later. Medical examinations revealed a brain injury and extensive bruising, consistent with child abuse. The cause of death was determined to be homicide due to blunt force trauma to the head.

While the infant remained on life support, lead detectives Owens and Carasco diligently pursued justice by obtaining search warrants, processing the crime scene, and interviewing the suspect and family members. On June 28, 2022, the Kyle Police Department executed an arrest warrant for Briones, issued by Beth Smith, Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, on the Capital Murder charges.

The comprehensive investigation carried out by these detectives revealed significant evidence that ultimately resulted in Briones' Capital Murder conviction. He was found guilty on November 5, 2024, and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He is currently incarcerated in the custody of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where he will serve his sentence.

The Garland Police Department is looking into a tragic event involving a self-inflicted gunshot death that took place during a traffic stop.

On November 18, around 11:00 p.m., a Garland Police Officer initiated a traffic stop in the 800 block of Bay Shore Drive due to observed traffic violations. The vehicle contained three individuals.

As the stop progressed, the officer developed probable cause to believe that the occupants were in possession of narcotics. During the investigation, the front passenger unexpectedly exited the vehicle and fled on foot, prompting a backup officer to pursue him.

Shortly thereafter, a single gunshot was heard, and the fleeing individual fell to the ground. Officers attempted life-saving measures until the Garland Fire Department arrived. The individual was then transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation revealed that the individual sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest during the pursuit. A loaded firearm, confirmed to be stolen from Plano, Texas, was found next to him.

No officers discharged their weapons during this incident.

It remains unclear whether the gunshot wound was intentional or accidental. The officer’s body-worn camera recorded the entire event.

The department is currently withholding the identities of the driver, rear passenger, and the deceased front passenger until the next of kin has been notified.
