For the third year in a row, the Clothesline Project served as a method for survivors of abuse to speak out about their trauma with a layer of anonymity. On Oct. 15, volunteers offered shirts for students to write on at New Mexico State’s University’s Clothesline Project in the Corbett Center Student Union ballroom.

It’s Election Day!

The upcoming election is calling to citizens from all over the United States. Pressing matters including the rights of citizens and the state of the economy are being debated, causing a divide between members of different parties.

While the deadlines to register to vote online and request an absentee ballot have now passed, New Mexico residents can still register to vote in person on Election Day. Corbett Center Student Union on NMSU’s main campus is a polling location open for same day voting. Polls will be open until 7pm today.

Las Cruces for Palestine held a “Teach-In” on Friday, Sept. 20 in front of the Corbett Outdoor Stage. The event aimed to raise awareness and educate fellow students at NMSU about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Since 2023, many students have been protesting the United States’ involvement in the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip. This teach-in was meant to educate students about the history of the conflict and region, the U.S.’s role in the conflict, and the ongoing war.

For students who look to navigate the complexities of student life, No Student Left Behind hopes to stand as a beacon of support. In Hardman & Jacobs Undergraduate Learning Center, Room 126, the mental health support group gathers for their weekly meeting Mondays from 7-10 p.m. Founded by student advocates Isaac Cramer and Mika Segura Rodriguez in the fall of 2022, the club gained its official status in the fall of 2023.

April is often the busiest time of the spring semester as students fight through the final push before summer break. Luckily for New Mexico State University, LGBT+ programs presented the Annual Pride Season Drag Show on April 16 to help students take the edge off through laughter and vibrant performances.

Drag performers included both students and professionals from around the country, some coming as far away as Minnesota. Throughout the two-hour runtime, the Corbett Outdoor Stage was filled with laughter and cheers from the audience as students watched their peers perform.

After a back-and-forth spring election cycle, the 67th Senate of the Associated Students of New Mexico State University swore in incoming senators and a brand-new executive cabinet on Thursday, April 25.

The swearing in ceremonies marked the official end of a disorderly election cycle for several candidates. Questions of bias and the associations understanding of state law came into full view during the spring election period.

After three semesters, New Mexico State University’s Swim, Bike, Run Club has grown from one member to over twenty members who meet up to exercise on a weekly basis.

The club began last year when the president, Hubert Henry “CJ” Quintana III, saw a flier posted by the advisors. When he showed up, he and the advisors were the only ones there. They soon found their vice president, Chloe Bryson, but it was just the two of them for last Spring semester.

New Mexico State University students and Las Cruces community members created an encampment at Aggie Forest, located just outside Corbett Center Student Union on Monday.

The group of students and individuals from the Las Cruces area are urging members of the community to join them in their efforts to protest the war crimes inflicted in Gaza by Israel.

The pro-Palestinian activists drafted a list of their intentions and demands in the form of a letter that was taken to the NMSU administrative offices.

“We don’t agree with what’s going on [in Gaza],” said a student protestor, who preferred to remain anonymous. “That’s like the little thing that I can try and do to help.”

“Consent is consent. Everyone should know about it.”

New Mexico State held its first annual “Consent is F.R.I.E.S.” event on April 9, courtesy of the Office of Health Promotion. Particularly on college campuses, where students are often drinking and partying, organizers thought an event where students could learn more about consent while enjoying a snack seemed ideal. In order to receive their free French fries, students simply had to name a component of the F.R.I.E.S. acronym:
