Behind the Mix | Tom Lounges
Tom Lounges hosts two shows on Lakeshore Public Media: Midwest Beat with Tom Lounges, a celebrity interview program airing Tuesdays, and the Midwest Beat Blues Show, a pre-recorded Friday night program focused on blues music, including its history and themes.
Lounges credits his high school teacher, Joe Fetty, for inspiring his career in radio after initially being directionless. Fetty encouraged him to explore his passion for music, leading Lounges to pursue radio inspired by Larry Lujak, a well-known DJ. Starting with an engineering job at a Chicago station, he gained experience in various music genres, including gospel, jazz, and blues, while learning about influential artists like Quincy Jones and Miles Davis.
Lounges transitioned from commercial radio to public radio in 2012, where he has been ever since. He values storytelling in his interviews, particularly connecting with musicians and presenting their music. For him, success comes when he can ask unique questions and build meaningful connections with his guests.
Cheers to your 13th year here at Lakeshore, Tom!
