Kung Pao Tofu is a delicious and popular Chinese dish. It is a flavorful and spicy stir-fry made with tofu, peanuts, vegetables, and a variety of sauces.
Ingredients
FOR THE STIR FRY
2 lbs tofu firm, cut into bite-sized cubes
3 tbsp vegetable oil
2 small bell peppers diced
3 stalks spring onion chopped
4 cloves garlic minced
FOR THE SAUCE
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp hoisin sauce
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp white wine
2 tbsp water
¼ tsp ground ginger
¼ tsp crushed red pepper
1 tbsp cornstarch
Instructions
1. Start by draining your firm tofu. Place it between two paper towels and press gently to remove excess water. Then, cut it into bite-sized cubes.
2. Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F. Adjust the temperature based on how crispy or soft you want your tofu.
3. Carefully add the tofu cubes to the oil, one by one, without overcrowding the pan to ensure even browning. Cook for 5-7 minutes on each side, flipping occasionally, until they are golden brown.
4. Add minced garlic to the pan and stir for about a minute until fragrant. Then, add bell peppers, roasted peanuts, and spring onions, sautéing for 3 to 4 minutes.
5. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, sugar, white wine, water, ground ginger, crushed red pepper, and cornstarch to make the sauce.
6. Pour the sauce mixture into the pan, stirring constantly, and cook until it begins to thicken slightly.
7. Serve your delicious Kung Pao tofu hot over rice or noodles. Enjoy!
