Red Line Editorial is seeking a dynamic sportswriter to join our team producing stories for the websites of major sports organizations while also contributing in our book publishing division.

Since 1998, RLE has partnered with major, national sports organizations to provide journalistic stories for their websites. The sportswriter would contribute regular stories to these websites, with many of them being athlete features. In addition, the sportswriter would assist in managing and editing content produced by freelance writers.

RLE is also a full-service book publishing company, and the sportswriter would contribute to this department in a variety of ways, including but not limited to authoring books for young readers.

This position is an ideal fit for a writer/editor who thrives in a fast-paced, ever-changing, and collaborative environment; is able to produce clean and accurate copy, including on deadline; and is motivated to find and share unique stories from the sports world, ranging from youth hockey to Olympic gold medalists.

This job is a full-time position. Although most of the sports content work takes place during regular business hours, this position would include regular shifts (2+ weekends per month) of remote event coverage. In addition, by nature some interviews or stories might need to take place on evenings or weekends. Because of this, RLE offers flexible scheduling, including the potential for non-traditional weekends (e.g. Monday-Tuesday, instead of Saturday-Sunday).

The ideal candidate possesses the following:
— A four-year degree in journalism or related field
— Two-plus years of experience preferred; recent grads with significant work experience will also be considered
— The ability to produce clean, accurate stories in a timely and efficient manner
— Strict attention to detail, both in terms of factual accuracy but also in managing style and content preferences across multiple publications
— Proficiency with AP Style and headline writing
— A natural curiosity for storytelling, and a knack for writing about niche topics in a clear and accessible manner
— While a deep knowledge of Olympic and Paralympic sports is not essential, a familiarity with how high-level sports work on this level is ideal
— The ability to actively manage multiple projects at once, including coordinating both with clients and freelance staff, while also being proactive in pitching story ideas and planning for the future
— A strong editing voice, meaning the ability to make a story better rather than simply proofread it for typos
— Adaptability, and a willingness to roll with the unpredictability of sports coverage
— Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as Google Drive

This is a remote position, although the sportswriter would be welcome to work from our Mendota Heights office if interested. Some travel may be required.

Red Line Editorial is looking for a Digital Publishing Intern to join our staff of print and online publishing professionals during the summer months.

RLE creates high-quality content for the educational market in a variety of media. We are seeking a Digital Publishing Intern to assist our sister company Big Timber Media in digital content support for online educational resources and its hosted ebook platform.

Duties will include:
--Test ebook products on various devices
--Convert print book files into ebooks in several formats
--Add content to websites; test webpages
--Maintain meticulous records of ebook testing
--Maintain clear file management for converted books and related metadata
--Other duties as assigned

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
--College student working toward a BA in design, English, communications, or other relevant field, or a recent graduate
--Interest in digital publishing and familiarity with ebooks
--Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Google Drive and Adobe Acrobat
--Familiarity with content management systems, such as WordPress
--Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
--Ability to work independently and in a team environment
--Excellent oral and written communication skills

The internship is for full time, 40 hours per week, from early May through early August, M-F, exact schedule TBD.

RLE creates high-quality books for publishers on a variety of subjects. Most of our books are nonfiction titles created for students in grades K–12, but we also work in a number of other genres. Red Line Editorial is known for the high quality of the work we produce. The editorial assistant will play a key role helping our staff members maintain that reputation.

This position will have hands-on involvement in a variety of areas, including:

-- Licensing, downloading, and organizing high-resolution images as requested by the editorial staff
-- Communicating and coordinating relationships with photo vendors
-- Maintaining documentation related to image licensing and downloads
-- Providing backup for other editorial assistant tasks, including receiving and documenting manuscript submissions, coordinating editorial vendor relationships and assignments, creating and organizing author contracts, and coordinating comp copy orders for authors and other vendors
-- Finding and contacting experts to serve as content consultants on books
-- Performing editorial tasks as needed, such as photo research, caption writing, fact checking, index builds, proofreads, markup transfers, etc.
-- Performing office assistant duties as assigned, including light cleaning tasks and front desk coverage
-- Performing other duties as required

The ideal candidate will possess at minimum:

-- An ability to communicate professionally and effectively with different departments, vendors, and clients

Our Production Editor will fill an essential role on our staff. Duties will include:
--Book production using established templates and styles
--Book layout using Adobe InDesign with an InCopy workflow, including text formatting and image placement
--Input changes into InDesign files from marked-up PDFs
--Manipulate and color-correct images and graphics using Photoshop and Illustrator
--Create charts, maps, or other graphical elements as assigned
--Create marketing images as requested

RLE creates high-quality books for publishers on a variety of subjects. Most of our books are nonfiction titles created for students in grades K–12, but we also work in a number of other genres.

This is a position that will give the right candidate the opportunity to work on key aspects of our editorial projects. This position requires keen attention to detail and an ability to manage an involved editorial process.

This position will have hands-on involvement in a variety of areas, including project management of assigned manuscripts, with oversight from staff editors. Duties will include developmental edits, collaboration with external authors and vendors, photo research and caption writing, some manuscript writing or rewriting, and other editorial duties as assigned. The sports editor will work on books and marketing materials. A library or education background is a plus.

This position would be a six-month contract, from April through September 2021. All work would be performed remotely during office hours until at least midsummer, and then some in-office time is possible at our Mendota Heights location.

The ideal candidate will possess at minimum:
