Select-O-Hits, Icehouse Records and the Phillips Family are deeply saddened to hear of Mark May’s passing.

We first met Mark in 1995 when he recorded his Icehouse Records debut album, "Call On The Blues”

What a talent! Singer, songwriter and one of the best guitarists we’ve ever seen plus he was a great guy.

We continued to keep in touch for many years after he left the label.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family.

We truly lost a good one.

Congratulations Carley Arrowood Music on your nomination!

Congratulations to Carley Arrowood Music on her nomination for the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Industry Award for Songwriter of the Year.

Arrowood, whose sophomore album, Colors, was released earlier this year, has already been recognized by the IBMA as both an instrumentalist and vocalist, winning a Momentum Award in the former category in 2017 and in the latter in 2023. As a songwriter, she is known not only for strong, musically sophisticated gospel and secular originals, but both traditional and contemporary instrumentals, too. Arrowood contributed six numbers in all three categories to each of her two albums, including her debut project’s “Dancing in the Rain,” which took second place in the Hazel Dickens Songwriting contest in 2017; “Moondancer” (Colors) which won first place in the same contest in 2023, and “Tsali’s Run” (Colors), one of the best-charting instrumentals of 2023.

“I’m so honored and grateful for this. It’s such a stout list of the industry’s best songwriters, and to be thought about among them is just way too cool!” says Arrowood. “God has blessed me beyond measure even before this nomination and I’m thankful for every new opportunity He gives me and my band. Thanks, everyone!”

New Release Alert! REO Classics Band feat. Terry Luttrell "Recorded Live at Shock City Studios" from Song Haus Music! Available 6/28/24! Physical/Digital

REO Classics Band:
This album was recorded to bring you that Live Raw Power and Energy that you will experience at every one of our shows, Honoring the early days, the music, the members and the millions of REO Speedwagon fans that grew up listening to these great classic rock songs.

Longtime fans can now hear “157 Riverside Avenue” again as Luttrell, vocally strong as ever, brings his original magical firepower to this song and six others from REO’s hard-rockin’ roots as part of an exhilarating new band called REO Classics Band. Terry teams up with drummer Michael Mesey (renowned for his longtime stints with Chuck Berry and Illinois hard rock band Head East) to form a recording and soon to be touring unit focused on what they call “the early days,” the greatness of REO Speedwagon’s impactful 70s.
Those who have been REO fanatics from the beginning – fondly remember the powerful vocals Terry Luttrell brought to the group during his tenure as lead singer from 1968-72. He recorded the first album with them – their self-titled Epic Records debut R.E.O. Speedwagon, released in October 1971 - it was the one album that laid the important foundation that was REO Speedwagon.

In addition to “157 Riverside Avenue,” titled after the address in Westport, CT where the band stayed while recording in producer Paul Leka’s studio in Bridgeport. Hailed by the then-popular trade publication Record World as “plain effective boogie music,” it remains an in-concert favorite over 50 years later. REO Classics Band’ explosive seven-track debut album features two other raucous classics from R.E.O. Speedwagon’ self-titled debut, “Anti-Establishment Man” and “Sophisticated Lady”; the hard chugging blues/rocker “Golden Country,” from the second album R.E.O./T.W.O “Riding the Storm Out” and “Son of a Poor Man,” from the third album Ridin’ The Storm Out and “Roll With The Changes,” from You Can Tune A Piano, But You Can’t Tuna Fish. REO Classics Band’ debut album was recorded and mixed in St. Louis at Shock City Studios and mastered at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London. Mesey worked at Abbey Road with Sean Magee as Magee mastered the project. The veteran engineer, thoroughly enjoying the way Luttrell, Mesey and their band kicked contemporary ass into these classic tunes, exulted, “It’s rock and roll. We need rock and roll!”

Paved with exciting and promising musical intentions throughout, the road to REO Classics Band began with a call in 2016 to Mesey from Steve Scorfina, REO Speedwagon’s guitarist in 1969-70 (before the legendary Richrath joined), asking if the St. Louis based drummer wanted to do a gig up in Champaign celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Red Lion, the bar where REO Speedwagon got its start. Mesey, Luttrell and Scorfina jammed together that night on “157 Riverside Avenue” and “Johnny B. Goode” (which Mesey played Many times with Chuck Berry), and the drummer and singer – who met for the first time at that gig – kept in touch and developed a solid musical and personal friendship over the years. While Luttrell mostly performed with his latest band, the Champaign based Tons O’ Fun band, he and Mesey occasionally did shows together in the years before the pandemic.

Knowing that Tons O’ Fun sometimes performed songs from the first REO Speedwagon album, Mesey would often ask the singer, “With all that great history, why are you not doing more REO stuff on your own?” Luttrell’s initial response – “That's something to think about” – and evolved over time into more serious talks about forming a new group dedicated to the band’s early material. Once the concept and name - REO Classics Band featuring Terry Luttrell and Michael Mesey – came together, the key to bringing the concept to fruition, beyond choosing the perfect retro material, was finding the perfect core guys to complement their artistry and fulfill their dual vision. They both began reaching out to musicians they knew around the country who they thought might be open to being in a National Touring Band – some whom they had played with in the past, some not.

Though Mesey had never gigged with him, he knew Mike Baue would be the perfect guitarist for REO Classics Band when Baue told the drummer that he had cut his teeth as a musician by listening to Gary Richrath and that the guitarist had been a major influence his entire life. In searching for the right keyboardist, Mesey and Lutrell knew they needed someone who was amazing on both organ and piano and could handle those wild, boogieing solos.

One day on Facebook, Mesey saw a post by keyboardist Greg Shute, which brought back great memories of the many gigs they did together in the band of Chuck Berry’s daughter Ingrid Berry. Shute had been touring with other artists and announced that he was playing a gig in St. Louis. After the show, Mesey told him about his and Terry’s idea for the REO Classics band, and Shute immediately came on board, agreeing to record and perform shows with them. Baue then suggested Bass player Will Polazzo, whom he had played together in various rock bands for over ten years.
“Terry was living in Nashville, but Mike, Greg, Will and I got together in St. Louis and started playing some classic REO material to see how the music would be and what the chemistry was like,” says Mesey. “Everything clicked right away crazy good. like it was meant to be all along. I called Terry and told him, ‘You will freak out at the power of what we just did!’ Terry came out for the weekend and did exactly that! He couldn’t believe how great it was and how perfectly our new band brought back the memories, magic and dynamic flow of early REO.”

Luttrell says, “I was super excited about revisiting and re-recording the songs from the first REO album and beyond, and about the energy we have with this band. I loved hearing the way the guys performed the music the first time they played for me, and it was so thrilling getting into the studio with them and recording these incredible live versions of the songs. We’re all looking forward to getting out there and playing these timeless tunes for the fans who loved that music and later REO fans and enthusiasts will enjoy hearing.

Mesey adds, “Like Terry, I love that classic 70s rock and roll sound. When I was growing up and started playing the drums, I was listening to all of the great classic rock bands. This kind of music never gets old!”

The first listen of the new Babylon AD brings you back to a simpler time of pure fun rock n roll, while keeping your feet planted in the present! It’s a blast in your ears and I can’t wait to hear it and see it LIVE!!
- Larry Mac Program Director / 96.1 KLPX Tucson

This is a record that sounds just like the band back in the day, full of fire, wonderfully heavy and firing on all cylinders: with guitar and vocals that haven’t lost a thing over the decades. Some bands come back with a bang, it seems that Babylon has just gone nuclear. - The Rock Pit.

Too early to spoil it, but I will say 2 things about the record. IMO, it blows "Revelation Highway" out of the water and if you like the first 2 albums you will LOVE "Rome Wasn't Built In A Day". - Brian Basher, BraveWords Radio

This is truly an amazing release! A great album from start to finish... this is truly one of the highlights of 2024 so far.
Pete Eklund, Metal Impact Radio

BABYLON A.D. definitely rekindled the romance of their earlier sound with “Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day”. - Metal Temple

Derek Davis and his Babylonians deliver the cornerstone of their catalog. Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day is a gem-riddled roof of songs that sits firmly atop the Babylon A.D. empire that has been under construction for more than three decades. - Scott Itter / Dr. Music Podcast and All Music Magazine.
