Don was a close family friend to all of us. Don and the L.Nix.com family have collaborated with nearly every artist who has entered this studio, as well as every studio in Memphis and legendary studios worldwide. The Mar-Keys and the Memphis Horns marked the beginning of this legacy at STAX. Don was a genuine music aficionado and a Memphis treasure. Our sincere condolences.
William Donald Nix ("Don") was born September 27, 1941 in Memphis, TN and passed away January 1, 2025 in Germantown, TN. (my brother's first name is William and my first name is Donald). When I was a kid, I would get made fun of sometimes for that name. Mainly because of Donald Duck and because kids are a**holes. As I got older and got to know my Uncle Don, I wore that Donald badge with honor.
In my childhood, we would have a big family get together each Christmas Eve at my Grandmother's house. Don would always be the one to pass out the presents to everyone. But the way he did it is one of my favorite childhood memories. Don could take a simple "Season's Greetings" on a tag and turn it into a comedy routine, just simply by how he said it. He was truly a cut up and had no filter, but that is what was great about him.
I could type for hours on Don's accolades, his amazing career, his books, albums, etc, but all that can be found on Google. We just wanted to say that our brother/uncle will be truly missed and we loved him very much. To all that have messaged condolences, we truly appreciate it. So, for now, we say goodbye and we invite you all to remember Don in his music. This particular song has always been one of my favorites, enjoy!
