Good Morning Everyone!
I hope you’re all having a beautiful and blessed start to your day — first and foremost.
So… I opened up my phone this morning, and the very first article I saw stopped me in my tracks.
It sparked some deep reflection, which led to my thought — and message — for today…PLEASE READ AND GOVE YOUR THOUGHTS
The recent situation with Memphis-Shelby County Schools is unfortunate, but it highlights a much larger issue — and it’s not limited to MSCS.
There are other agencies and departments across Shelby County where similar patterns are playing out. New leadership comes in, and employees with years of knowledge and expertise — the ones who understand the processes and have kept things running — are either terminated, silenced, or treated unfairly. Those who remain are often afraid to speak up due to fear of retaliation or being targeted simply for doing what’s right.
As a result, morale has plummeted in many of these organizations. The very people responsible for serving the public are left to operate in environments filled with fear, uncertainty, and inconsistent leadership — all while certain individuals in leadership positions abuse their authority without being held accountable.
This is exactly why our upcoming elections matter. We need to elect leaders who are committed to transparency, fair and consistent enforcement of policies, and ensuring that no one is above the rules — regardless of their position or connections.
Ultimately, the taxpayers of Shelby County fund these salaries. We deserve to be treated with respect, fairness, and professionalism — not dismissed, retaliated against, or ignored.
It’s time to demand real accountability, transparency, and ethical leadership across all levels of Shelby County government — not just within MSCS.
Dr. Marie Feagins entered the district with an energy and decisiveness that many initially admired. Change was needed, but she overcorrected.
