Hailing outside Memphis in Jackson, TN, soul sensations The Jacksonians (later as & Co.) began backing local artists in the late 60s & after dabbling w/a label in Cleveland, returned to the bluff city signing on with MGM/ in ‘73. While only one 45 was released, several unreleased tracks were resurrected on various Ace Records' SOM compilations in the 2000s, including “I’ll Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know” – just as sultry, silky smooth as Donny Hathaway’s original. 😍👏🎤

Memphis R&B group The Ovations, led by the Sam Cooke-emulated vocals of Louis Williams, toured in the 60s with household soul artists i.e. James Brown, Gladys Knight, etc. But their most significant success came in 1973 at with two top 10 R&B hits, Dan Greer’s “Touching Me” ( #19) and Cooke’s cover of “Having a Party” ( #7).
