Going viral might seem like the holy grail of social media, but (and I hate to break it to you)...it's just not.

Here's what it ACTUALLY means for your business:

1. Viral fame is fleeting. Today's trend is tomorrow's old news. Blink, and it's gone.

2. Going viral doesn't guarantee you're hitting the right crowd. It's like throwing a massive birthday party, but not everyone there cares that it's YOUR birthday. They're just there for the party.

3. It's not just about the numbers game. A smaller, enthusiastic crowd beats a huge, indifferent one. Think connections, not just clicks.

4. Virality can spin out of control, and your brand might end up doing a dance you never wanted to do. Keeping a grip on your image is vital.

5. Viral fame doesn't always mean more sales or loyal customers. You want both attention and action, not just a fleeting moment of stardom.

6. Social media algorithms (and I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH!) change like the weather. Relying on virality means riding a rollercoaster you can't predict.

Bottom line? Instead of chasing viral dreams, focus on creating real, valuable content. Build connections, not just views. That's the secret to long-term success.

I hate to break it to you, but your customer knows...

They know when you aren't being authentic, when your priority is making money over serving your customer, when you just want to make a buck...etc.

The customer wants to (& DEMANDS to) feel seen, heard, and understood. They want a business they can trust.

In a world where consumers are constantly being promised that one product/service will *magically* fix their problems, be the business that is honest, authentic, and trustworthy. Be different. Figure out what your consumers need and MEET THEM THERE.

WHEW! What an incredible year it has been! I've been blessed to onboard so many new clients, work on some of my favorite projects EVER, expand the BBM team (YAY!), and have a front row seat to the success and growth of multiple locally-owned small businesses. This industry is forever evolving and as I continue to sharpen my skills in social media management, I also continue to learn more about business ownership. It's such a gift...learning and growing with the support of so many in this community.

As I close out 2023, I want to say a MASSIVE and heartfelt "thank you" to all the business owners who have brought me on board and allowed me to be a part of their story. Getting to do this work is so meaningful and all of my clients hold such a special place in my heart.

Thank you for another wonderful year and many more to come!

Instagram Reels was created amidst the surge in short-form video consumption, inspired by the success of TikTok. As a SMM, I know the power of short-form video content like Reels. Short-form video strategically maintains user engagement within Instagram's ecosystem, offering a seamless way enjoy bite-sized, creative content. It caters to the trend of quick & visually captivating videos. This empowers brands and creators to connect with a broader audience and stay pertinent in the ever-changing social media landscape.

Knowing how to create high-performing short-form videos can seem like a guessing game sometimes....and that's because virality IS a guessing game. Nevertheless, there are 5 ways you can ensure that your Reels are top-tier.

1. Grab Attention Fast: Lock in your viewers in seconds with a solid visual or intriguing statement for a strong first impression. Initial impact MAJORLY influences engagement. Research suggests that you have around 2 to 3 seconds to make a strong impression and convince viewers to continue watching your content.

2. Ride the Trends: Join trending challenges, sounds, and formats for wider reach. Trends boost discoverability. Use the Explore page or relevant hashtags to identify current trends.

3. Make it Mobile-Friendly: Optimize for mobile viewing on Instagram's platform. Ensure content is clear and captivating on small screens, using large text for readability. One of the most frustrating part of being a SMM is watching business owners do essentially everything WRONG in their business and expect their social media to make everything RIGHT.

It simply does not work that way.

As a business owner, if you.....

- Don't understand your consumer
- Don't have the right pricing
- Don't have good customer service
- Don't fill a need for your target consumer
- Have too many barriers to purchase
- ETC....

You WILL NOT make sales no matter how good your social media looks.

You could go viral on social media and if you don't have the proper business strategy in place, you conversions will be next to nothing.

Every business is different. Every customer is different. Every product is different. Every season, industry, demographic, etc. IS DIFFERENT.

So why would we all use the SAME approach to social media?

You have probably heard that you HAVE to post a certain amount of times per week for success or you HAVE to be on TikTok or you HAVE to use a certain trend.

Well, I'm here to tell you that's all wrong. If you are a business owner, the best way you can effectively market to your target consumer is to deeply understand your target consumer and diligently work towards meeting them where they are.

Instead of getting caught up in how many times a week you should post, take some time to get more curious about what is important to your consumer. What problems can you solve for them? Where are they spending their time and money this season? What are barriers to purchase you can remove? What are aspects of your product/service you can improve to better serve your customer?⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠

You can try and hack the 'system' all you want, but at the end of the day it comes down to one thing. ⁠

Your ideal customer. ⁠

Those that fully understand the struggles and lifestyle of their target audience will always come out on top. Every. Single. Time. ⁠

When you're a social media manager, you wear a lot of hats. More than likely, you create content calendars, shoot/create/edit content, write copy, create strategies, monitor analytics, run ads, and then do it all over again the next day. But when your client expects you to perform miracles on social media, it is nearly impossible to deliver! 😅

Many business owners (and people in general) don't have a clear understanding of the role social media plays...which leads to a lot of frustration for both the social media manager and the client!

While social media managers CAN and DO create engaging and shareable content, virality is largely based on external factors such as timing, luck, and audience engagement, etc. We can do our best to predict what will do well based on data, but that doesn't mean it's something we can guarantee!

Social media managers can help manage and address negative feedback, but they CANNOT fix a fundamentally flawed product or service. If you're storefront is a mess, if you have a crappy product, if everyone in town knows your customer service stinks, or you don't even know WHO your target customer is, your SMM can't magically make you a millionaire.

Annnndddd... *dramatic pause to make sure you are REALLY paying attention*

Really great social media management requires collaboration and support from clients! As a SMM, I have clients in all fields. My clients are certainly experts in their fields, but I am not. Therefore, I must heavily rely on my clients to willingly collaborate on content. How can I hit a home run with content on a topic I'm no expert in? It's really really hard. Trust me.

I said what I said and I will say it AGAIN!!!

You do not need the nicest, newest, or most expensive camera equipment to create reels that go viral. I have personally created reels for clients with my iPhone that have gotten millions (yes, I said millions) of views.

All you need to create a crisp, high-quality reel is your smart phone! (& the corner of your shirt because you and I both know you have finger prints on your camera lens as you read this.😉)

June was a month of HUSTLE.

Today I closed out another month feeling just super grateful.

Grateful to be here, to learn, to grow, and to have the opportunity to do what I love and work with people who love their field and their community.

This month ….
- I created and scheduled more than 900 pieces of content for my clients
- Had consultations with small business owners on how to grow their social presence AND scheduled 6 more consultations for next month!
- Focused on time management skills + crushed it…if I do say so myself. 💅🏼

Next month, I have a lot on the books including continuing ed opportunities that will allow me to serve y’all even better. (Nerd things 🤓)
