If it was the last, it was a blast! Acklen Acoustic Presents: and was our first sold out show and it was a fantastic night! As we look for funding and sponsorship opportunities to continue our series, we’ll be taking a break from promoting live shows to assess how best to move forward. Thank you to everyone who has supported the series so far. We’re so glad you’ve enjoyed it and helped us grow something special for songwriters to share their songs. The world needs songs, and our artists need these spaces!

Acklen Acoustic presents Joshua Andrew Cosby and Misti Rae Saturday Sept 24 at Otherlands Coffee Bar.

One could say native Memphian, Joshua Andrew Cosby, writes songs with his heart on his sleeve. More accurately, Cosby writes songs with his heart on his cape. Cosby’s recent project, “Black Bettie,” is named after and inspired by Black Bettie, his 17 year old pet dog. Black Bettie, the project, is a collection of songs exploring life’s defining moments with childlike wonder and awe, processed through the lens of Black Bettie's unconditional love. Joshua’s performances are dynamic and powerful, projecting raw emotion that he impressively navigates without breaking down. His audience will be touched by every song as each hits home and hits deep. Joshua’s Black Bettie project is a cathartic and healing experience, even for the unassuming listener, who may be reconnecting with Cosby after having known him as a founding member of Star & Micey. Joshua’s songs are the ones that you didn’t know you needed to hear, until you’ve heard them, so come hear them live, Sept 24!

Misti Rae is the epitome of versatility. Torch singer, songwriter, visual artist, and dancer, Misti Rae peppers her songs with humor, depth, and an awe-inspiring appreciation for life and all its wonders. Her stage presence is an artful balance of depth and wit. Misti Rae's fan Lindsey from Misti's page notes how she manages to make her lyrics simultaneously cute, deep, and funny. I have found the same thing when listening to Misti Rae's songwriting. One of my favorite songs is where she describes her heart as a 'Clumsy Parade Balloon' and the imagery and humour in that song has always stuck with me.
