For the first time in what is believed-to-be the 18th playing of the Rio Blanco County Cup, the golfers from Rangely came to Meeker and dominated the rain-delayed tournament, defending their title and bragging rights, as the “Cup” will reside in the western end of Rio Blanco County for another year. According to Rangely men’s club captain Robbie Elam, “It’s about time.” Rangely avenged their home loss to Meeker, several years ago and according to Elam, the win for Rangely evens the score at nine wins for each town. Close to 100 people took part in the annual Cast, Blast & Twang event at Nine Mile Guest Ranch last Saturday. Participants of all ages and backgrounds received personal instruction from Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers, got hands-on experience in shotgun shooting (below left), .22 shooting, archery, and fly fishing, and were treated to lunch on-site. The event is a collaborative effort between Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Nine Mile Ranch, RTS Hunting LLC, JML Outfitters and Bonehead Outfitters. This was the third year the free-to-the-public event has been held at Nine Mile Guest Ranch. More photos on the website!

On Wednesday, June 5 the Meeker Chamber of Commerce welcomed Firm Foundation Childcare at its grand opening and ribbon cutting. The kids “cut” cute figures as they handily sliced through the ribbon with their kiddie-sized scissors. They rounded off the ceremony with a cupcake, a little punch and then each child released a balloon for luck! Firm Foundation officially opened for business on April 1 with just one child enrolled. Today there are 21 infants, toddlers and preschoolers enrolled but they still have plenty of room for a few more! Eventually they plan to care for 40 children in their facility. If you need quality childcare for ages 6 weeks through 6 years, check out Firm Foundation Childcare. 970-878-3111 or email [email protected].
