BREAKING NEWS: By a unanimous 5-0 vote, the Mebane City Council has approved a request by Buc-ee’s to rezone property along Trollingwood-Hawfields Road for a new Bucee’s travel center - the first of its kind in the state of North Carolina. The site will include an approximately 75,000 square foot indoor facility, 120 gasoline fueling stations, approximately 652 parking spaces, and 24 electric charging stations. City leaders also unanimously approved a special use permit request by Buc-ee’s to allow for the construction and ongoing maintenance of the travel plaza facility.

Buc-ee’s made a slight modification to the site plan presented in December to the Mebane Planning Board, as they agreed to move fuel tanks to the opposite side of the proposed site, farther away from adjacent wetlands. The final votes came after an approximately eight-hour City Council session that did not conclude until just before 2:00 a.m.

There will be much more on this breaking story Tuesday at MebaneEnterprise.com.
