See the hidden turtles? Hehe. This is a collab with my 3 year old! He picked the flowers and then we decided cake colors together. I decorated and he wanted his fave, turtles, on there so we added a couple where he wanted.

One of my fave cakes ever. OMG was this fun. And boy does it make me happy to look at.
The frogs and mushrooms are meringue. It was my first time making shaped meringues like that and gosh is that hard! But I definitely will be doing that again.
The middle of the heart is gelatin. I made it too dark of a blue, so next time I’ll be more aware. But I still think it looks neat! And it firmed up and didn’t mean everywhere so a win is a win. 🙌🏻🤣

No one eats them lol. They are just vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream. And I use it, scrape it, and use it again. Until I can’t anymore, in which I toss it.
I keep my content cakes, or Frankenstein cakes some call them in the fridge or freezer. And they last a good bit before I need to make a new one.
Now when I make cookies and stuff, my family eats them lol. And they don’t mind at all.

A few more tips for the perfect black buttercream:Make it the day/night before. The color will darken as it sits. I usually make it the night before and wrap it up and leave it out on my counter. That way when I am ready to use it, it’s the perfect color and consistency. I measured with my heart for both the gel and black cocoa powder. I’ve made black buttercream enough I can live life wild and free like that. My suggestion if you aren’t sure how much to add? Start with less than you think you need for both. If the color is a nice dark greyish black, it’s going to darken overnight. If you’re worried, add more food coloring. Don’t go ham with the black cocoa powder. It’s delicious like Oreos but it can get grainy/butter with too much imo. Plus you don’t want it tasting like an Oreo when you’re client wants vanilla. Quality food coloring does make a difference. I swear by @americolor gel food coloring but find what works for you. Just make sure it isn’t water based or cheap stuff. At some point you’ll be dumping a whole bottle in and it won’t taste or look good. Don’t like this method? That’s totally ok. There are plenty of ways to do it.
